MORGANA, from the business Little and Fierce

Here she chats to me about running her business, blogging and balancing family life…

Little and Fierce - talking business with Morgana

So Morgana, what is your background?

Believe it or not I used to be a qualified social worker! I worked in parenting support when my oldest was little but was made redundant after maternity leave with my youngest daughter. It was during maternity leave that I discovered blogging and social media. It sounds super cheesey but it was like a whole new world! The experience of marketing a blog and getting to know other small business owners that gave me the push and confidence to start my own.

Why & when did you start your business?

I’ve wanted to own my own shop since I was a child. I’d play shops in my room, all the time! It’s something that I thought I’d never actually get to do but seeing my husband start his own business and then my own experience with social media I started to think that maybe I could give it ago. I launched Little and Fierce in November 2014 after a year of planning and researching and finding funding.

Where do you work from?

I have an office/stock room in our house that I use for wrapping orders and photographing but if I have a lot of computer based work I tend to head out to a coffee shop and park myself there with a massive coffee and my headphones in! I also write a lifestyle blog so I need to set aside time for that too.

How many people do you employ?

As Little and Fierce is still so small it’s just me and my husband supports me tech and finance wise.

Where do you get your inspiration/ideas for the business?

Everywhere! Pinterest really helped me to start with but seeing what kids are wearing, seeing trends and colour palates, just anything really! My own kids are a big inspiration and I will think of them when looking at new products. I have a clear theme for the products and brands I stock, Little and Fierce has a fun, colourful vibe, and so I’m strict with the things that I take on, they have to fit that criteria. It’s been a learning curve figuring out what my customers want, price points and themes but it keeps me on my toes and I’m always on the look out for new ideas.

How many children do you have?

I have two girls, one is 8 and the other is 5.

How do you balance work and your own family life?

I have no idea!! Lots of coffee? Seriously it’s like the holy grail. Some weeks I hit the balance and other times I feel like I’m massively failing on all counts. Having both my girls at school now has made a huge difference and it means I don’t have to be up so late working in the evenings. The juggle comes with the school holidays but I guess most parents have that to figure out.

What does the future hold for your business?

I hope to grow Little and Fierce, I’ve got some brands that I’d love to stock and work with in the future. Watch this space I guess!

Morgana is one of my favourite bloggers. I love her shop, too. I tend to buy birthday party presents from there because it means the children in James’ class get something a little bit different that you find in all the usual shops.

I am a big Little and Fierce fan too! Love Morgana’s blog too and I remember it was one of the first I followed when I had just started mine. I actually started a blog with the aim of turning into a shop but it hasn’t happened yet! xx

Love this! 2 of my favourite bloggers together! Nice to hear Morgana struggles with the balance too as I certainly haven’t worked that one out! Little and fierce has such wonderful little bits and I wish I had a little girl to spoil with it all. LB has a few bits and I think I’ll need to go and have another look now X
