September, and why I’m not putting myself under all the pressure

September - new beginnings

Harry & Lottie – my baby twins – have grown up in what feels like an absolute flash. One minute we were bringing them home from hospital, guiding, nurturing them both through newborn nights, teething, growth spurts, weaning, toddling and preschool…and now they are skipping off to reception class in a couple of months.

All. The. Emotions.

And the AMOUNT of people saying to me “What will you do with yourself?” is unreal. Yes they are only making a point, but still, it makes me laugh out loud. Because since my blog grew so much last year, and my freelance social media work increased 6 months ago, I have been pretty much squeezing big projects into 3 short days. Running around like a crazy person here, there and everywhere trying to please all the people, meet deadlines and juggle 100 balls at once.

And so this recent busy period in my life has also had me going around to anyone and everyone, saying “In September I’ll achieve X”, “Come September I’ll achieve Y”. Big plans.

September and new things

But actually – when I sit down and look at just how many extra hours I am gaining into my week – it really isn’t that many. Realistically it isn’t going to have me achieving all that more than I do now. There’s no point me aiming for the sky.

It will mean though that I can settle into a better routine with what I have going on right now and get more of a balance during the working week, as well as allow me to focus a little more on the more creative side of my work. Plus when the twins start full-time it will give me more time to do social things such as the gym, shopping, coffee with friends and lunch with Dave – with no children buzzing around! Even attend events and allow for networking. All the things that currently get neglected because I’m trying to fit so much into such a small time space!

But as for adding in brand new goals and targets, well I am going to leave that for the next 6 months at least. I am delighted with where my blog & business is at right now (it all makes me so happy) and I want to aim to keep my focus mostly on my children, as they start on this new adventure.

September 2017 for our little family is full of change and is a very exciting month in our house. The twins are starting a whole new chapter of their little lives and it’s going to be a new way of working and living for us all.

All change indeed.

Absolutely Jess but you may get one or two evenings back (maybe…) which would be nice! I don’t think people realise how hard you work already!

All the emotion! Zach has his taster session tomorrow morning and I already keep welling up! I totally agree that this is the time for you to get yourself into a routine that works for you. And then if you find you’ve balanced it all out nicely, you can grow even more 🙂 well done Jess – you’ve worked so hard 🙂

Definitely all the emotions! Henry & Heidi start in Sept too and until recently I’d been looking forward to getting a bit more time. However, as it draws closer I’m turning into an emotional wreck!!
Completely agree with not putting any pressure on. Sometimes it’s important just to saviour the moment and enjoy rather than aiming for more.

My eldest girl starts reception in September, too. She is in the nursery school at the moment but I don’t want it to end. I’ve loved her being there and it still doesn’t quite feel like school yet. But I am immensely proud of her and I know she’ll love it! Hope your twins do as well. 😊

I still can’t believe it!!! When we were talking about our babies going to nursery — and then school — it felt like we’d got AGES!!!!!! And now it’s here already!!! I’m going to feel bereft in that first few weeks — I’m excited to have a bit more time but I’m going to miss my little buddies SO much!!!! xxxx
