An October break in the sunshine of Kos

A family holiday to Kos with Mark Warner

Since returning home this week many people have inquisitively asked me what the weather was like in Kos during the first week of October, and honestly I have been gushing about it. For it was around 25 degrees each day, with little-to-no cloud. For me (the sun-worshipping-kind) I was relieved that it was ‘proper sunbathing weather’. For my Husband and children (who are less thrilled about raging temperatures and an all-over-tan) this was THE perfect temperature for them, in order to frolic in the waves and sit eating ice-creams by the beach bar.

The twins don’t start school until next September (2017) and so we have decided to cram in as many holidays out of season until then! After securing a place as a family blogging ambassador we went on our first ever holiday as a family of four with Mark Warner earlier this June to Levante in Rhodes…and we loved it. So much so we booked with them again this time around.

I could spend this whole blog post comparing that Levante holiday to this Lakitira one but I am not going to – you can go and read about that vacation here! Instead I’ll share with you the highlights of our October break away in the sun.

Hotel

The hotel itself is lovely, extremely clean and of a high standard. With a reception, spa, 3 outdoor pools, shop, 9 tennis courts, a children’s play area, kids club, restaurants and bars, as well as being situated on a long private beach with a full range of water-sports.

Our room (a suite) was split into two rooms for the twins and us; a sliding door separated the two rooms. We also had a patio area for sitting in the evening. We had a beach view and it was beautiful. The rooms were cleaned every day and all towels are provided (even for the beach). Wifi worked perfectly in and around the whole complex!

Food: we were on half-board, meaning that we got breakfast & dinner included and then paid for all drinks & lunch. The main buffet restaurant serves delicious breakfasts with plenty of fresh fruit and yoghurts plus full cooked breakfasts. Dinner then embraces local dishes from fresh fish, to Greek salads, kebabs and delicious desserts. We were never stuck for choice and the food was tasty. There are also two other restaurants on site (an Italian and a Greek Taverna) for something different. We ate at the Greek Taverna one night – at an extra cost – and the food was delicious.

There are two beach bars and so we grabbed lunch at one of them on most days (our fave was the pork giros see below). We also had ice-cream at one of the bars each day!

Childcare

Harry and Lottie were booked into childcare (with qualified British Nannies) every afternoon. The childcare is included in the price of the holiday and you can select mornings or afternoons. There are various classes (babies, Mini’s, Juniors etc); the twins were in a group of just 4 others, which was really nice and they made some lovely friends.

They do a movie night from 7.30pm each evening. You take them in their PJ’s and they all watch a movie together with the Nannies. So cute! Harry & Lottie never complained at going and loved watching the movie with their buddies! If any kids want to fall asleep then they have little camp beds each. This was SO nice as it meant that Dave and I could dine alone and drink cocktails on many an evening before we collected them!

Social side

We made friends with quite a few families and Harry & Lottie made such good friends with one little boy that he sat with us for part of the flight home! One thing that always strikes me (about both holidays now) is the loyalty to Mark Warner. Most people we have met so far have been on 2, 3 even several holidays with them. They really do love their activities, facilities and service.

Activity

We played tennis, Dave went on 3 bike rides, we swam in the pool, we paddled in the sea, we made sandcastles and we took out a kayak during our week away.

For the very adventurous there is an abundance of water sports and activities to do on the waterfront with plenty of helpful staff.

Quality time

Without-a-doubt the best part of our holiday was the amount of time we spent together as a family unit. The twins loved following Dave around everywhere, wanting his full attention and talking to him constantly! It was so nice to see the three of them together.

The children just seemed so much more relaxed this time around too. They got into the flow easier; travelled well and got into a routine quickly. It did feel very relaxing and it will be a holiday we remember for a lifetime.

Love, Jess x

Aw it looks so lovely there and it sounds like it was similar yet different enough to Levante. Good idea to get in as many holidays in term time before school starts. We have gone on holiday in september for 4 years running now and will definitely miss being able to go off peak next year. Lovely photos Jess, it sounds like you had such a lovely time together xx

Oh I wish we went on more adventures before Meme started school! It is so hard being tied by the school holidays! It looks amazing I have never tried a Mark Warner holiday – in my head I always think it’s an expensive brand however I have no idea if it actually is!! I will have to check it out.

I would definitely cram in as many holidays as you can before the twins start school. It sounds the perfect weather in October, pretty much the same temperatures that we had in Greece back in April. Going away with 3 redheads they prefer it cooler. Sounds as if you had a perfect week in the sun spending quality time together x
