Our family holiday {Levante Beach, Rhodes}

Levante Beach, Rhodes with Mark Warner

Our recent family holiday to Rhodes, Greece had a lot to live up to. Primarily because it was our first ever holiday abroad together as a family of four. Previously (before we had the twins) Dave and I loved to travel and visited some amazing locations – and so we really wanted to make new some memories with Harry & Lottie that we could keep forever.

Earlier this year we were really lucky to have been chosen as a Mark Warner Holidays ambassador. We chose their 5 star resort Levante Beach, Rhodes as our destination. Check out my winning post here.

Luckily, Levante Beach didn’t disappoint at all – and we had a superb week away!

Up and away…

We were up pretty early (3am!) on the Saturday morning in order to make it to Heathrow, Terminal 5 for our flight. After a few hours driving, then parking and checking in, we waited to be called. The twins were really excited and couldn’t wait to get onto the aeroplane.

The British Airways flight was 4 hours. I was actually dreading this, as Lottie in particular doesn’t like sitting still for long, but we had plenty of sticker books, iPads and snacks, which all helped. We were soon landing. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Flying with BA - holidays

Mark Warner charter their flights, which means that nearly everybody on the plane was going to Levante Beach. This was good because we got chatting to a few families who we then saw and became friendly with throughout the week.

The resort…

The resort is really impressive, extremely clean and of a very high standard. With a huge lobby, spa, 4 outdoor pools, 2 indoor pools, shop, tennis courts, a children’s play area, kids club, restaurants and bars, as well as being situated on a private beach with a full range of water-sports – Levante has everything you can imagine.

Our room (a deluxe suite) was large and split into two separate rooms for the twins and us; a big sliding door shut the two rooms off. There were heaps of wardrobe space and a good sized bathroom with complimentary toiletries, a bath, separate shower and double sink. Plus a patio area for sitting in the evening. We had a beach view and it was beautiful. The rooms were cleaned every day.

The only thing we were a little disappointed with was that wifi didn’t work in our rooms; nonetheless it did work really well throughout the hotel and pool/bar areas.

Food and drinks…

We were on the half board option and so breakfast and dinner was included but lunch wasn’t – so we went to the pool bar for this each day, which was reasonably priced and had everything we wanted (pizza, sandwiches, burgers, salads etc).

You can however upgrade to full board.

The main restaurant (Almalthia) serves a buffet style breakfast and evening dinner. This is 5.15pm-6.15pm for the children and then main dinner starts at 7.30pm (although anyone can eat at both sittings – children are also very welcome in the evening).

There was so much choice from the breakfast and evening meal buffet. They themed the evening meals such as Greek, Italian etc. It was such delicious food and we ate a lot of it!

Drinks weren’t included (except for juice & water for the children’s meal, and juice & water at breakfast). The drinks were very reasonable though – a bottle of wine was around £8 and a beer around £3.

The local Greek waiting staff were extremely friendly and polite and the service was impeccable.

Kids Club…

Harry and Lottie were booked into childcare every afternoon, 2.30pm-5.30pm. The childcare is included in the price of the holiday and you can select mornings or afternoons.

There are various classes (babies, Mini’s, Juniors etc). The twins were in a group of about 6 children who were of all their own age which was really lovely and they made some nice friends.

They also do a movie night from 7.30pm each evening (also included in the cost of the holiday). You take your children in their PJ’s with a favourite teddy/blanket and they all watch a movie together with the Nannies. So cute! This was ideal because it meant that Dave and I could go for dinner together.

I genuinely thought our children would dislike the movie nights (they go to bed at 7pm each night at home) but they loved it and adored being with their new friends. If any kids want to fall asleep then they have little camp beds each for during and then after the movie. Harry & Lottie were often asleep when we picked them up around 9.30pm (the Nannies tell you what time they fell asleep).

Before we got to Levante Beach I knew that Mark Warner had fantastic childcare facilities but I wasn’t sure how the twins would feel about going to Kids Club in a strange place – especially Lottie who is quite clingy to me. The Nannies (all British, and fully qualified) were so helpful, considerate and fun and Harry & Lottie sincerely LOVED going. Running there most afternoons!

As a result of seeing other children and parents each day at Kids Club, and the around the pool areas, we subsequently made some lovely new friends – who we have swapped emails with regarding meeting up at home!

What did we do?…

It took us a few days to settle in, but then we quickly got a little routine going. After breakfast we would either go to one of the pools, play tennis, go to the play area or go to the beachfront. There is so much choice throughout the resort and we never felt bored.

In the afternoons (whilst the children were at Kids Club) Dave and I would either sunbathe or go for a few cocktails & beers, which was so nice to grab some quality time together. We don’t get much time alone at home as a couple and this really helped us to relax and unwind. Especially when we knew the children were having immense fun learning to sail, making crafts and having their faces painted!

Get active…

Whether you’re into sailing, windsurfing, kayaking or simply want a first lesson/to have a go, the beach waterfront has it all. One morning we took the twins out on a kayak each which was great fun. The beach was always a hive of activity and the staff are super helpful and friendly.

Holiday blues…

We really have had a serious case of the holiday blues since we returned, especially as the British weather has been awful! Our week in Rhodes was superb and we miss the place a great deal. Seeing the children throw stones into the beach of an evening or seeing them laughing in the pool was utter perfection and exactly what we wanted from our family holiday.

The REAL highlight of the holiday though was spending quality time together – as a four – away from the stresses of work and home. Having a great deal of fun and making new memories. We will remember this first holiday forever.

We sincerely want to try another Mark Warner beach holiday soon and we are busy looking into visiting another resort. It was ideal for a family like us!

Love from..

Oh I absolutely loved reading this, such a great review and it looks like you had the most wonderful time at Levante. What a great holiday for the twins first time abroad. I must admit that Levante will always hold a special place in my heart, we went there for two years in a row and had the most amazing time. We loved all the Greek staff and Sue the manager, I am sad we most probably won’t be seeing them this year. We are off to Majorca in a week or so and while I can’t wait, I will miss our favourite place! Love all these sunshiny and happy pics and the video is gorgeous too! xx

Ah this brings back memories. We absolutely LOVED Levante and have spoken about wanting to go back at some point. For us, it was just amazing. The food especially! As vegetarians we were nervous about what we would be able to eat, but we were UTTERLY spoilt for choice. It was an amazing holiday and it looked like you guys had the most amazing time too. Great review! xx

It really does sound perfect and I love, love, love your photos! I’m so glad you had such a lovely time, it must be so daunting going abroad with them for the first time – I would be terrified taking our three boys – but does look like it’s been worth it. I can’t believe how grown up they are both looking, the movie club sounds like the best idea ever!!! What a beautiful place xx

Oh wow Jess such an amazing holiday, loved having a read about what it was like and what you got up to. I’ve never been on a holiday where there has been a kids club, so to me family holidays don’t really mean relaxing for the parents! This sounds very relaxing for everyone! Totally going to look it up online. Xx

It looks like you all had an amazing holiday, and hurrah for getting some time alone to spend as a couple. It really makes a difference knowing the children are both happy in the kids clubs. We used the childcare for the very first time when we went to Greece back in April, and it was lovely to escape to the spa just the two of us. I love all your pictures and your video, what a gorgeous place Jess x

What a wonderful way to spend your first family holiday abroad. Everyone I know who’s been on a Mark Warner holiday with kids raves about the kids club. I love being able to have some adult time and it sounds like they make this totally stress free for you. The food and facilities also sound spot on for families. Oh, and that sky!
