A weekend away with friends in Devon

Weekend away in North Devon with friends

When we booked a weekend break for November I wasn’t quite sure if it was a good idea going away so close to Christmas and with the weather not being too warm. However, how wrong I was. We have just returned from a fantastic break away with some good friends to Appledore, North Devon – and in fact it was perfect timing for a long weekend and getaway right before the mayhem of December!

We stayed in a cottage near Appledore, booked through HolidayCottages.co.uk who have such a huge supply of cottages in the UK to select from. It was such a hard choice selecting from one of their many places to stay.

We went for this large 5-bedroomed property, Marisco which was renovated and refurbished in 2016. This superb detached house (set in just under an acre) situated by Appledore, has some amazing views over Northam Burrows and Westward Ho! towards the ocean. As well as a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, open living room and games room it also had a garage with table tennis table. We all absolutely loved the large property which felt spacious for the 6 adults, 5 kids and 1 dog that stayed! There were plenty of rooms for the children to explore and play in – and the grown ups mostly hung out in the living area and kitchen.

On Saturday we visited Westward Ho! on a slightly drizzly and windy day. As we are all Midlands residents we had to take the opportunity to visit the beach to let the children and dog enjoy the waves!

Afterwards we headed back into Appeldore for lunch at a local cafe.

On Sunday we woke to blue skies and warmer weather and so set off to another beach (Northam Burrows) which was breathtaking. This beach was vast and the views were stunning. Again, the kids played in the water, threw the ball for Ted the dog and did some digging. Harry fell flat into the cold sea running away from some waves and had to have a change of clothes!..but aside from that they all enjoyed the day.

When the children were in bed each night we enjoyed a few drinks and ate plenty of good food; relaxing and enjoying the company. It felt incredibly relaxing to be away from the stresses of home and housework.

We all said we’d definitely do it again and can’t wait to book something for the New Year. Going away with a large group of people definitely keeps the cost of a break away right down, plus it makes for some fun and amazing memories too. Our children played really nicely together and Harry & Lottie haven’t stopped talking about their little friends since we got home.

If you want to have a peek of more of what we got up to then here is our vlog which you can watch here!

Love, Jess x

It sounds amazing!!! We were looking at holiday cottages for my mum’s 70th next month, funnily enough, but as it’s the week before Christmas it’s all too hectic — I think we’re going to put it off until the new year.

Such a shame as she says that her birthday is always swallowed by Christmas!! Poor thing!!

Stunning!! Such gorgeous photography. We love shplashing on the beach in winter too – so much fun and you generally get the whole place to yourself 🙂
