2016 trends: the pleated skirt

The pleated skirt trend

A few days ago I blogged and vlogged about how I wanted to get myself back up-to-date with fashion, style & trends. Since having the twins 4 years ago my own fashion has taken a back-seat as my life has been filled with so many other things. But once more I am back and loving everything to do with fashion & style again! Hurrah!

I can’t stop looking around and following stylish people on social media for hints and tips on what’s hot right now. I am really excited to be shopping for myself again.

It seems that one of the key 2106 trends (that is everywhere right now) is the pleated skirt. I have seen this on so many friends, bloggers & celebs in many different colours and styles – plus it is all over the high street. It seems to be trendy to wear it with a plain or slogan tee, and with flats or pumps for a casual style. And then adding in a denim jacket or a bomber jacket to complete the look.

Trends: the skirt New trends 2016 - the pleated skirt

My gold skirt shown here is from about 5 years ago (maybe even more!) from River Island, which I have worn to a few weddings. Until now, I have never thought of dressing it down and making it into a casual piece! So I have added a white tee from Next £7, that I bought last week, which I think makes it look feminine and yet summery too.

I tried mine on with my Converse pumps and it looks OK, but as I am only 5ft 2in I feel as though I need a tiny bit of height to the look. So I have added in these SUPER comfortable metallic gold tone wedges that I picked up last week from TK Maxx for £25. They are the kind of wedges that you could walk miles in and not get any sores from. They are really soft and fit so well. I think I will be wearing them with everything for the rest of the summer, and getting them in a few more colours too!

Hubby picked me up this cream Mulberry bag recently in a charity shop in London and I absolutely love it! The rose-gold, oversized watch is an Uncle Jack one that I was sent by them recently.

Where would I wear this outfit?

I would wear this to do the school run, to meet up with my freelance clients or to go for lunch with my friends. I think that it is comfortable, practical and yet really pretty. It is also a great alternative to a dress.

What do you think about the pleated skirt trend? Have you tried it yet?

Love, Jess x

I think Fearne Cotton started this trend last year with that beautiful coral-coloured one she wore a lot from Top Shop. I tried it on but looked hideous in it. It 100 percent suits you, though. The whole look is lovely x

I’ve got a grey pleated skirt from the Alexa Chung range at M&S. I bought it when I was pregnant and it has just started to fit me, but I still can’t decide how best to style it. I love the look on you and that Mulberry bag! What an amazing find! xx

Thanks and the skirt sounds lush!! A t-shirt seems to work quite well with them – I have found that this one suits it best rather than a really baggy one. Bet you look great xx

This look really suits you, it’s gorgeous. I’m petite too and never EVER wear skirts, but you may have inspired me to at least try a few on when I get the chance to go shopping child-free. I adore those shoes too! xx

Well, this length and style of skirt has NEVER suited me – I’m too short, but I think the slight wedge here really has helped!! Good luck and keep me posted xx

It’s a gorgeous skirt and you’ve styled it so well. I’d love to wear one like that but I’m so tiny I think I’d just look all skirt. That mulberry bag is amazing!

Thanks lovely! You can get shorter, lighter ones – maybe that would work better xx
