As I get ready to enter my 40’s later on this year (#fortyiscoming) style isn’t something that I’m willing to compromise on. In fact, I’m feeling more confident and happy than I have done for some time now…and fashion is probably more important to me than ever.
But at 39 I’m feeling as though it’s that fine line between looking too trendy (teenager) or frumpy (hello too much comfort).
As you can see from my style posts and Instagram photos I’m no trend setter. I like what I like and it usually isn’t wacky. I’ve tried to be a fashionista (believe me)…I follow all the stylish influencers and I’ve tried to emulate their style, but it’s just not me. I like a mix of jeans, blouses, blazers, t-shirts, heels, earrings, trainers, long coats, sometimes a skirt or a dress, and occasionally a statement piece, like a leather jacket.
One item of clothing I do love to wear on repeat is a shirt. With a pair of jeans this feels a really smart/casual look and is perfect for the kind of life I lead — i.e. working from home, doing the school run, shopping, meeting up with friends.
Jeans, Debenhams (old) / Shoes, New Look (old)
For me, a shirt feels grown up, mature, stylish…but with some bleached jeans it gives an outfit more of an ‘on-trend’ feel.
I’d add a blazer in for cooler days and a pair of trainers for the school run.
The White Company kindly sent me some gorgeous pieces recently, which are SO lovely. I can’t explain how soft and high quality this shirt feels. Their spring/summer catalogue arrived through my door a few weeks ago and so much from it is absolutely gorgeous (for the twins clothing too).
I don’t think you can go wrong with a shirt and a pair of jeans — and don’t even get me started on this straw bag.
Love, Jess x
