A Blazer & jeans (is this the perfect combo?)

Blazer and jeans - casual wear for Mums

Like I explained in my last style post, I *drastically* need to scale things down a bit in my wardrobe and get back to basics. I am aiming to try and create a signature look for myself by mostly sticking to a style uniform that 100% works for me. I need clothes that are going to look stylish, compliment each other, work alongside each other and basically make life easier for me to get ready in the morning! Because I have ZERO time to faff about before the school run every day!

I cannot really live without wearing jeans. I wear them most days; they’re the backbone of my wardrobe. And so anything that comes to live with me & my precious denim just HAS to get along. No compromise.

I have noticed that one way of smarting up the jeans and trainers/boots look is by adding in a blazer – and to be honest I have become a bit obsessed with them lately (as you can probably tell)! Not only are they gorgeous but they are great for autumn/winter and come in all kinds of colours and textures on the high street this season.

The style icons of Instagram & Pinterest seem to be wearing their blazers mostly oversized, (which I love), however, because I am short this is a hard outfit to pull off! I therefore wouldn’t wear an oversized blazer without a block heeled shoe or boot, otherwise it completely drowns me. Shorter blazers suit me better when I am in flats.

One red-hot trend in fashion right now is the Prince Of Wales grey & black check blazer. It is HUGE right now and most high street stores are doing their own version of this look.

I have gone for this Next blazer below (which I bought myself last week) as I like the fit and quality. But Mango, Topshop, Zara are all doing a version of this blazer too.

I would wear this kind of outfit on the school run or at weekends with my family – adding in a basic grey or black top, jeans and some jewellery to give the look a smart-casual feel. I love this look and these kind of blazers – my collection is growing fast!

It is nice to have a selection of blazers to be able to match them with different colours and accessories, however a black, navy or grey one would be perfect if anyone is looking to get a capsule wardrobe. These kind of colours go perfectly with denim and compliment most other colours too.

This is totally my signature look. In fact I laughed as I am currently wearing tshirt, pink blazer with skinny jeans and ankle boots. It’s my whole wardrobe the same but in various colors and patterns. lol Love this look on you. We seem to have similar taste I think. I always love your outfits. I need to do more fashion snaps pronto I missed doing them over the summer. #wrc

I adore your style Jenny and love everything you wear! I just tend to use a tripod and that’s all! My editing is terrible and I wish I had better knowledge! xx

This is a gorgeous fit on you Jess, I love a good blazer and jeans combo and really must invest in a new one for myself. I know what you mean about working on a capsule wardrobe, I’m doing the same and embracing my love of monochrome rather than try and push myself into colour just for the sake of it! xx

Oh gosh I’m struggling with what to wear at the moment. I LOVE jeans (like you I wear them pretty much every day) but I have to say I’m not keen on blazers on me – they remind me of high school! (Looks fab on you, I just can’t pull it off!) Any ideas for an alternative?

I do love a blazer, I think I have for years but they seem to be around a lot this year. I have a grey one coming this weekend and I hope it fits right, I love the oversized look. I’m looking forward to seeing more colours coming out in a blazer too, I’m thinking a bright pink has to be added to my collection! Great look on you Jess x

Looking lovely as always Jess. I cleared out my wardrobe a bit just last week and am already finding it easier to get ready in the mornings because I can actually see the things I might like to wear. I am the same as you about jeans, they are my go to. I wish I could get on with blazers, but I haven’t found one that suits me. I think I might be too curvy for them, which is annoying as the style I really like is kinda minimalist, but looks dreadful with a matrons bust. Sad times lol xx
