As I write this blog post it’s absolutely blowing a storm outdoors, the windows are rattling, I have a jumper and a cardigan on, I’m cradling a cup of tea and it’s a really chilly week-day. Now that it is here, January already feels cold, bleak and dark.
Who else is already excited for spring-time?…*puts hand in the air*.
Dave and I are back onto the healthy eating wagon, back into gym routines and back to busy work schedules – and with the Christmas laziness and indulgences we’ve just had it feels SO MUCH harder to get going again! To cheer ourselves up we are already discussing and planning booking a family holiday away in the sun, because we can’t wait to feel some warmth again.
In the meantime though, even though the weather outdoors is currently a lot harsher, we are aiming to try to get out into the countryside as much as we can together as a family. It’s important for us to try and stay active and get as much fresh air as possible even in the winter months. It is good for us all to burn off energy (especially the twins!), escape technology, unwind, spend some quality time together and generally blow away the cobwebs.
We try to get out for long walks as much as we can during our family weekends and holidays. In all weathers.
We are very spoilt where we live as we have some amazing Worcestershire countryside right on our doorstep, which is beautiful, even in these bleaker times.
Some of our favourite brands for outdoor wear includes Joules, Barbour, Muddy Puddles and Timberland. I have found that it is better to invest in higher quality clothing and footwear (i.e. spend a bit more for better pieces) because it lasts. It also makes a difference when you are out in the elements having proper clothing to wear.
The children need thick coats, warm hats and good, sturdy wellingtons because they absolutely love finding and stomping in mud!
We’re going to get out for as many walks as we can over the next few months, as a way to stay active and also to save money.
