How to look stylish (with minimal effort)

How to look stylish with minimum effort

If you are a Mum and have to be out of the door in the morning, then chances are you probably don’t get much time to spend on yourself to look stylish. As a Mum you’ll probably have VERY little time to get yourself ready and looking glamorous because you’ll have to think about getting small people out of the door and on time to their various places!

I don’t get much time to myself in order to get ready in the morning…which involves shower, selecting an outfit, any accessories, doing my hair and putting on make-up. And the time goes so fast. There’s just so many other things to do and think about that getting myself dressed and ready becomes the lowest priority!

But these days I still want to look stylish too throughout the day, even though I have lots of jobs to get done in the morning. My typical week might involve client meetings, lunch with friends or coffee dates and so I like to look as though I’ve made an effort, without actually having done so.

So I use a few of the following in order to help me look and feel stylish in my Mum-wardrobe:

1/ Pick classic pieces

If you are wearing jeans then pair them with a blazer in order to give the outfit a more stylish feel. They are perfect for early autumn-wear and go really well with a Breton stripe, tee or shirt. Roll or turn up the sleeves for more style and pair with crop jeans for a really up-to-date look.

I like to wear wedges at this time of year but if you’re on-the-go all day then add in some loafers.

2/ Heels

No, I’ve not gone crazy…because what Mum really can wear heels all day? But instead of high stilettos then a block heel shoe can be absolutely perfect. Having a small heel can make you feel instantly more stylish and give your legs a longer look (which I need!).

With autumn-style upon us then you can go for a block heel ankle boot and it’ll be really comfortable as well as looking great on the school run/in the office.

3/ Jewellery

Something I haven’t been wearing enough of lately is jewellery – and I don’t know why. Adding a gold chain, with a tee or a shirt, plus a gold watch on my arm has really given me more of a stylish look. Really simple but effective to ‘jazz’ up a basic outfit.

4/ Accessories

Going for a latest ‘trend’ bag – like a tan saddle bag or a pink tote instantly makes your look more stylish and on trend. Oversized sunglasses are also great for adding glamour into a classic outfit.

Great ideas Jess, I must admit I’ve given up on wearing jewellery and heels – it’s only something I think about doing once in a blue moon but I will definitely try to add more in, the jewellery anyway, maybe not the heels! You look SO good in blazers too, they don’t really suit me but I love how you wear them with striped tops., absolutely love that checked one xx
