Cooking with HelloFresh

I’ve mentioned before that I’m not really the best chef. I have a repertoire of family dishes but they tend to be the basics like spaghetti bolognese, roast dinner and stir fry. I do like to ensure that I make all our meals (where I can) from scratch and ensure that we eat healthy too – but I find it challenging to get inspired for dinners.

That’s why we just LOVE the idea behind HelloFresh, who claim that they are ‘making home cooking easy’ – and got really excited when they contacted us to try out some of their delicious recipes. One of our friends had recently tried it and raved about it and so we were excited to give it a whirl ourselves.

They also have recipes from top celebrity chef and food campaigner Jamie Oliver and each week you get the option to receive a recipe created by him!

We went for a family box which they have created totally with families in mind i.e. they choose nutritious ingredients that kids & adults love to eat. From our box, Dave & I wanted a mix of family meals as well as dishes we could eat together in the evening too.

One of the HelloFresh recipes Dave & I tried first together from our delivery box was the Panang Prawns with Egg Noodles and Coriander. It takes 30 mins to make and was a difficulty level 2 (out of 3).

Ingredients used:

Egg Noodle Nest, Red Onion, Red Pepper, Garlic Clove, Ginger, Coriander, Panang Curry Paste, Tiger Prawns, Lime.

The meal itself was SO delicious. We kept nodding and saying it throughout the whole dish! It was a touch spicy and had a little kick – the prawns were superb quality; really meaty.

Patrick, the chef behind the dish, says: “How to clean a prawn: Remove the head by pulling and twisting. It will come off easily. Pull off the legs. Use a small knife to create a slit down the back of the prawn. Remove the long black vein that runs through the entire prawn. Rinse it under the tap and pat dry.” Sign up here for more chef recipes and tips.

Having this box has made dinner time SO much easier; and taken the boredom away from meal planning and grocery shopping. It has also given us some great new recipes to try! And we can’t wait to try some recipes with the children next time – such as gnocchi and sausage skewers.

A family box, based on 4 people enjoying 4 recipes is £64.00 – which works out around £4 per meal.

I love the idea of these boxes. It is definitely something that I am considering now I’m back at work. Having all of the ingredients planned out for you is so appealing to me, and actually it isn’t that expensive when you consider how much a weekly food shop can be! xx

I love the idea of Hello Fresh. I am in such a rut with family meal times at the moment. I shop online and I find I just buy the same things every week. I need a really good shake up, but something that is fairly straight forward too as I am not the best cook in the world. Your meals look delicious Jess x
