Getting our home spring ready

Spring ready - interiors and style

Last week the sun shone through our living room bay windows all day and it felt so much like spring! It was a glorious day and quite warm. According to the Met Office it officially arrives on the 20th March 2017, which isn’t long at all. January and February have felt as though they have gone on forever and I’m definitely ready for a change.

Here are some ways that I will be getting our home and interior ready for the spring months ahead!

1/ Clear out
A good spring clean, trips to the tip, bagging up items for charity shops and general sort-out always gives us a good start and gets our rooms ready for the warmer weather. It also gives us a chance to re-think rooms and their purpose. Actually doing it (i.e. having the motivation) to de-clutter & tidy up is always the hard part, but when we do we feel a true sense of satisfaction!

2/ Less layers
Thicker throws and soft blankets are much needed and super cosy in winter but now that spring is coming we don’t need them so much anymore. Thinner throws are good and less faux-fur works well for spring. I also like white bedding for our bedroom to give it a bright and airy feel.

3/ Seasonal accessories
I like to change my accessories for the spring-time; cushions, accessories and prints can be easily added in to change the theme or colours in a room. For spring colours I always think that the likes of green, pink, yellow & white work nicely to give a room a fresher feel. Even adding in a bunch of flowers makes the house feel spring-like and creates such a lovely focus.

4/ Storage
Spring is a good time to put away things such as wellingtons, big coats, boots & umbrellas etc and put it all away/out of sight. I tend to put our bulky items away in the garage or into spare bedrooms to clear the hallway and utility room. It makes the house feel lighter and brighter too.

Brightening up our home for spring time

5/ Maintenance
Although the sunshine is most welcome, it shows up SO much dirt! My windows look absolutely filthy and some of the walls are looking really grubby. Hubby and I will probably have a DIY weekend soon touching up walls with paint and deep cleaning our home to get ready for the summer.

I love it when the light nights arrive – here’s to spring-time! I’m so excited!

Do you do anything to prepare your home for the new season?

Love, Jess x

I’ve just wrote about some bright coloured bits and pieces I’ve bought to update our home! Great minds, I love a good spring clean and sort out too. Not quite as easy with twins running round the house but I have made a start. It’s so nice when it all brightens up isn’t it? xx

Spring time gets me all excited also! Such a great time of year.
I also pack all bulky items away including changing up the winter duvets for a lighter tog and floral throws. Adds a touch of colour to the bedrooms.

Oh, it’s wonderful to see the sun again, isn’t it, Jess? But, yes, I can suddenly see lots of jobs…cleaning windows, dusting…but, like you, I’m spurred on by the satisfaction I’ll have when it’s done! Beautiful flowers. #homeetc

I have been doing lots of this lately, decluttering and organising, setting out flowers and letting in the light. #homeetc x

I can’t wait to do our spring cleaning, which will be epic this year due to the dust the kitchen is creating! It’s always the windows that show up the dirt in the sun isn’t it! xx #homeetc

Totally agree with these tips! I have been trying to gradually clear out our home and have tried to slowly move the children’s toys from downstairs to their bedroom. They were spreading them all over the ground floor and it was getting to the point where I could hardly move for toys! One thing I wont be able to part with is my blankets. I am like an old woman and like to stay wrapped up even in summer x x x

Lots of great tips here Jess! I hadn’t thought about moving winter coats and boots out of the hallway during the warmer months, no idea why as it seems like the obvious thing to do! I guess I just need to figure out a new home for them. x

Sounds like a plan! I have been very busy clearing out too. I’ve taken to buying only one type of storage bin. They are transparent and air-tight so I know what’s in them and can rest assured that when I open them up again there will be no nasty (eight-legged!) surprises! Your entry way is looking lovely! #HomeEtc xx

I am starting prep for my spring cleaning.
Decluttering and finding storage for things that we won’t need again for a little while is pretty tough.

We’ve actually got a skip on our drive right now to start a massive spring clear out and getting ready for the new season! Great tips Xx

I’ve never really done anything to get ready for spring before… well other than a good sort out, you know a good spring clean. This post has got me thinking though, I feel inspired now.

Oh this is beautiful and so many great tips for Spring. Its easy to stay motivated and feeling positive and happy. We just lighted a few rooms to do just that for Spring.

Similar to you Jess, we are getting ready for Spring. Love the spring flowers in the house and having a sort out. We are currently still bedding down with all our changes and still have two rooms to get done so I feel we are a constant work in progress this year. We will take in the seasons as we go. ‘#HomeEtc

I find it spurs me into finishing off those annoying little DIY jobs that have been left over. It’s cleansing to get it all nice again xx

  17. March 14, 2017 / 4:17 pm

I love a good spring clean and sort out. We spent much of January clearing out years of clutter and buying new storage. Now I need to do some proper cleaning and get some flowers!

  18. March 15, 2017 / 7:52 pm

We always do a lot of these in the Spring. I love swapping over my clothes and packing up the big jumpers and coats. We are moving in a few weeks so will be doing a huge spring clean!
