My dream home office

Dream home office

Now that I am working from home, as a blogger and freelance writer, my attention in our new home is being drawn more towards creating my dream home office. I am lucky that we have the space downstairs to have an office, for I do love having somewhere that is dedicated to my working area. At the moment it is quite a plain, dull space – magnolia walls and old furniture that doesn’t really compliment the new-build home we now live in.

I love the above photo – that rug is fabulous! (source).

My current desk is too small. My diary and notepad fall off it and my printer is crushed into the corner! So Hubby is going to build me a desk that spans the room. Eeeeek! Also, after Christmas the walls are being painted by a decorator. I will either go for white or something equally as bright I think as the room isn’t all that large, and I don’t want it feeling too dark in there.

I am therefore scouring and pinning ‘dream home offices’ like mad on Pinterest. I seem to be drawn to the Scandinavian/Nordic style of white, modern, clean living. With statement prints, bold stationery & prints and practical storage.

I love the idea of having it quite girly in there too – with feminine touches such as plants, cushions and maybe a fluffy cream rug on the floor. My Hubby hardly ever uses the space himself and so it can really be all mine! For my writing inspiration, and for me and my devoted iMac.

Watch this space x

Ah exciting, we recently did our office and we absolutely love it. I have the clock in the above photo which is my pride and joy. Will look forward to seeing it when it is done. x

We’ve been talking about making me an office too, although we already have one for hubby that used to be the playroom so we should really focus on making that one a little mrs grown up first. Lovely ideas.

I like having a room to have as mine, it makes me feel important ha ha! But you can work anywhere really can’t you – you just need a laptop xx

I would absolutely love to have an office space. It must be so much easier to work when you have an area devoted to it, especially if you can make it a space you love, I’m sure it will make you feel so much more relaxed and creative. Love the pictures you’ve posted and you will definitely need some inspirational prints on the walls 🙂 xx

Gorgeous…I’d love love love a little office! We did toy with the idea of converting the cupboard under the stairs, or an outbuilding in the garden. Hubby has his designs on it as a ‘mancave’ but after seeing this he could be in with a fight 😉 x MMT #homeetc

I think its every bloggers dream to have their own little office away from the world. Hats off to your husband for being able to make you a desk. Can’t wait to see it all finished. My blogging office is shared between my dining room table, and the lounge at David Lloyd (where I am now). At least its nice and quiet and free wifi lol x

Ooooh sounds very posh and quiet too! I love it when I can find places like that. At weekends the twins use my office as a playroom as the chair swivels! Not great ha ha xx

That black and white rug is amazing! Some lovely ideas too – we have an office / spare room though this week it has been turned into a bit of a laundrette. Whenever we have a lot of washing in the rain it ends up drying in there… x ‘HomeEtx

Oh no! I have that in my bedroom upstairs so the office is pretty free but it needs a good makeover and I can’t wait xx

Ooh, lovely, inspiring choices. I’ve been coveting a desk like the one in the first image for a long time. We keep meaning to turn our spare bedroom into a space for working, but haven’t got round to it yet. I’d rather be downstairs! I’m sure you’ll make some fab choices. #HomeEtc

How exciting! I have a bureau for writing but it’s not a dedicated office space. You lucky thing! White and bright is a good direction, it will be so fresh and inspiring 🙂

Oh Jess, such gorgeous ideas. I am getting very jealous of your room-spanning desk as I sit here at my mini desk in the corner of the living room 🙂
I am looking forward to your updates.

I would LOVE my own office to do my studying, blogging and work in but sadly we just don’t have the space. It’s so distracting working in the front room. My husband only works part-time so he’s around until 2.30 pm then from 3.30 pm the kid is home. Needless to say I am nowhere near as productive as I could be!

Beautiful looking office spaces, I am currently re doing my ‘office area’ but mine is in the lounge/dining room so I have to make it my zone but also tie it in with the lounge space too. It’s a hard job! However I cannot wait to get organised.

    • November 19, 2015 / 11:01 am

Thanks and zoning is a great idea and helps to focus and keep it a focused area for work xx

It will look just gorgeous when it’s done, I just know you’ll be so happy!! Funnily enough Pinterest was where I turned to for my inspiration too just after we moved in, I think since our 4th bedroom was the smallest we knew turning it into a home office would be one of the quickest transformations we could do. And Pinterest inspired me to go dark grey which I would never have dreamed of!! Can’t wait to see how it looks and I’m off to stalk your boards for more inspiration Xx

I love the styles you’ve gone for and the black, white and gold looks so striking. I would love to have space for an office rather than using the kitchen table! Look forward to seeing how you get on with this project! xx
