The best toy storage

Storage for playrooms and bedrooms

The twins had such a superb Christmas this year, for they are at such a magical age (3 years old). And they were very, very spoiled by us and by all of our family. They have been so lucky and received some amazing presents from our loved ones. Including new bikes, a 6ft dinosaur, tablets, tracy island and a crying baby Annabelle. To name but a few! However, since that lovely, special Christmas Day we have since been drowning in toys. No joke. And all I have been able to think about is the need for more storage in our home, like the one shown above (source).

We have a superb box-unit, similar to the one shown above, except ours is from Ikea. Which currently sits in the playroom of our new build home. It keeps all the toys hidden away when it is tidy up time and is very practical! But this isn’t quite enough for everything these days. Because since Christmas time, we seem to now own every toy and game going!

We require some more boxes and tubs to store all the various games, toys, books and puzzles. And so I have been scouring the net for some new pieces. There are some gorgeous ideas and lovely furniture out there to add to the twins bedrooms and their combined playroom.

I really dislike boring plastic storage – even though it is practical and cheap – and so I want something a little more sturdy, that goes nicely with their decor. I love white, and also like colours and patterns too.

So here are my 6 favourite picks from the internet from some superb children’s home and interiors shops:

Storage for childrenStorage for children

1/ Canvas tubs by the Great Little Trading Company, £25.60 (each)

2/ White bookcase by Jo Jo Maman Bebe, £75

3/ Storage box & tubs by IKEA, £50.50

4/ Flower toy box & desk by Wayfair, £92.99

5/ Kids roaring dino box by Dunelm, £19.99

6/ Storage cubes by A Place for Everything, £62

These canvas tubs (1) are exactly what I am currently searching for. The colours and textures are ideal, and they would add some personality into their rooms. Great for throwing toys into at the end of a busy day! The white bookcase is also exactly what we need for the playroom (2) as they have received so many classic books this Christmas.

These storage tubs from Ikea would be great for the hall (3) – for all their new shoes, wellies and slippers!

I love this pink desk for Lottie (4)! It is perfect for her and doing all her drawings. And Harry is dinosaur obsessed at the moment so this tidy up box (5) would be ideal for him. He would love it.

And then finally these storage cubes would be great for their bedrooms (6) for keeping their teddies and books in, by their beds.

So there! Some amazing storage solutions here and all very reasonably priced too. These items will definitely help me win the war on space! Go Mum!

Happy shopping,

Love Jess x

Ha ha – I literally can’t see the playroom floor anymore! Help! xx

    We totally are too!

I have number 5! And the matching box storage too, Ethan is a huge fan of dinosaurs. And we are a huge fan of the IKEA cube range (just bought another one today!)

Ahh storage of toys… definitely something I need now! We’ve had Christmas and now Little Miss has her birthday next Sunday so no doubt there will be even more toys! We have an Ottoman in our living room which doubles as a toybox and seating if needed. And for her big girl room I’ve bought one of those IKEA ceiling soft toy storage contraptions. x

Love, love, love your choices!! I’m not a fan of boring old plastic storage either.

I’m thinking about changing our current guest bedroom to Jasmine’s bedroom as her nursery is tiny and doesn’t have room for anything, storage wise.

I’ve really like the bookcase and then ikea storage tubs. xx

So funny to read this today as I spent yesterday afternoon reorganising our playroom thinking we needed more storage and then realised that it actually needed some better planning and a good tidy-up! We have the IKEA storage bins which are perfect for keeping different toy types together like trains and cars but I love that book display shelf – so much better than a bookshelf for encouraging reading. Thanks for sharing this Jess and Happy New Year! #HomeEtc

Thanks lovely and happy new year to you!! I had a few clear outs over Xmas and was ruthless as the twins got so much 🙂 Your playroom is fab, one of my fave’s! xx

The storage cubes are brilliant. We have them in our playroom and Noah’s bedroom. I love them because they make toys easier to sort than if you have a big chest and the kids are less likely to tip everything out in one go. I got some lovely grey canvas boxes from Argos a while ago now and Ikea have a great selection xxx

I always need more storage! However like you I am now trying to make storage more practical but also nice to look at too.

    • January 6, 2016 / 7:18 pm

Plastic tubs are just so ugly!! Practical but not as pretty as wood or fabric 🙂 xx

I am nuts about storage too- we can’t get enough of good storage in our house as the children have so many toys and books. We are Ikea trofast fans here, although I absolutely love the lego brick storage boxes. I feel these could on the list when we give F a ‘big boy’ room makeover, probably next year! x

Glad you had a lovely Christmas, such as special time at that age. Love the canvas baskets for the toy storage – so many nice options you have shown, but isn’t it a chore, picking it all up and putting it away (though my days of toy clearing are long over, I still remember it!) #HomeEtc

It is such a chore. The bits seems to have got smaller this year too – I can imagine me picking little things up for the rest of the year now ha ha! xx

Cruel mum that I am, I came up with an even better storage system than the ones you listed … a midnight cull with half going to the charity shop and half to the tip 😉 A few weeks on and they’ve not even noticed that anything’s disappeared 🙂

Toy storage is a killer isn’t it, its on my hit list for 2016. We currently have cube storage from Ikea downstairs which we use 4 baskets for toys, and the kids have a Trofast unit from Ikea in both their bedrooms, but we need something extra, and its trying to find the balance between stylish and practical without breaking the bank isn’t it! x

I remember Christmases when the Boys were little. The toys took over the house. Its amazing the older they get the less they get in terms of volume. Jack got 3 presents of us this year but omg they cost a fortune x

As I said to Caroline (mum of 3) earlier in a comment, the storage isn’t the issue in our house — we’ve got some lovely storage solutions for the boys — it’s the fact they won’t put any of their toys IN them!! LOL!!! Maybe 2 is a bit young?! Maybe when they turn 3 we’ll have a tidy house?!!! Yeah, right!!! 😉

Happy new year lovely girl! SO happy to be hosting our lovely linky for another year 🙂 xx #HomeEtc

I think I need to invest in one of these for doggy toys – if I trip over one more tennis ball they’re all going in the bin 🙂 I especially love 1 and 4, I would have adored a desk like that at Lottie’s age. Good luck with winning the war 🙂 Xx

The trofast from Ikea are awesome, we have a few of these around the house for storage, we to are drowning, I also find their Stuva toy chest are amazing for things which are big or if like us 50 million cuddly toys xx

Lovely picks, Jess! I adore GLTC’s range and am always pleasantly surprised what Dunelm has to offer when I visit! If I ever manage to create a playroom for the boys when they’re bigger, I would love to think some items like this would keep everything organised and in its place!! Well, for five minutes until they emptied everything out I suppose! Happy New Year to you all! #HomeEtc

Those tubs are fab, I’ve seen something similar on pinterest (yes in one of the many hours I’ve spent there lately) and they were homemade, which sounds great if you’re trying to match to existing or more unusual colours. And you’re right three is s magical age for Christmas, I bet it was as fun to watch them. Thanks for hosting #homeetc x

I have just sold all our plastic storage from the playroom as its getting a major overhaul in the coming weeks. I will be filling it with lovely white Ikea storage units and canvas boxes. I love storage as I hate seeing ANY clutter. Though at the moment you can’t see our playroom floor for Barbie dolls x

Ooh, I love all of these! I always lusted after the entire GLTC catalogue when mine were younger! I think their storage looks like such good quality and it is designed in such a way that it would grow with them (rather than being too ‘baby-ish’). Sorry if I’ve commented twice on this post, I did comment and then couldn’t remember whether I actually pressed the ‘post’ button! xx
