Well hello everyone. A very Happy Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful break and throughly enjoyed your festive period.
So. Are you ready to get going with it all again?
Let me first start with our Christmas Day, which was pretty busy and a little hectic, but also SO lovely. We hosted Christmas for both sets of parents – Dave and my Mum cooked the dinner and everything was delicious and very special indeed. It was nice for the Grandparents to see the twins waking up on Christmas morning and open their presents (even if it was 5.30am!). Harry & Lottie got some wonderful new things, including new scooters and bikes.
The ‘Chrimb Limbo’ bit in-between (as I am sure it will always now be referred to!) was really, really chilled for us. We didn’t see any more family in that time and spent most of it watching movies, eating chocolate and generally chilling together/playing with new toys. The twins have been incredibly well behaved throughout the break and perhaps a sign that they are growing up more than I have ever noticed before. It has also been nice for us to be with Dave so much too – and really enjoy quality time with him.
My birthday was on Christmas Eve and I celebrated turning 39 – meaning that I am now in the last year of my 30’s. Whilst the big 4-0- feels as though it is now VERY fast approaching I feel happy with my life and not at all too phased with ‘numbers’ – although please remind me that, this time next year won’t you, when I am sobbing into my hands?!
The New Year ahead
So hello to 2018!
Gasp. A new year.
I always feel an overwhelming sense of immense pressure in the New Year to be a better human being, more productive, successful, fit, happier and healthier than ever before…and actually it’s a tough time of year to step up the pace. In the first half of January we usually have little money left over after Christmas, my diet is terrible, I feel more tired due to a lack of routine, plus the weather is bleak. So all of this doesn’t actually bode well for making (and sticking to) new resolutions.
Saying that there are some small things I’m aiming for over the next 12 months. Firstly, I will pick up my weekly gym routine again because I did this pretty much from September 2017 onwards (when the twins started full-time school) and I have felt better as a result of the exercise. My health is important to me and staying fit and active.
We also want to book a summer family holiday too this year because we need to plan in more of that precious family time away from our daily stress and routine. We didn’t go away to the sun in 2017 (we had a ski holiday instead) and so we’d like to do a beach holiday in 2018. Dave and I are just discussing and searching out good family places to go. I will keep you posted.
Work-wise I am VERY excited to get going with it all once again. Whilst I throughly enjoyed the Christmas break and being offline a lot, I’ve genuinely missed the buzz of it all. My mind has been whirring. In 2018 I am aiming to build upon the work of the last few months of 2017 – expanding into more fashion and family lifestyle content – as well as improving my photography.
I do realise now though (after much thought and soul-searching recently) that my passion completely lies in blogging and not solely via Instagram, so I am going to put more energy in 2018 into regularly producing weekly blog content. Instagram will still be my favourite social media channel (and I continue to get a lot of pleasure out of it) but the process of ‘making’ a complete blog post from that initial idea to publish is the bit that keeps my spark alive for this whole influencing-thing. Blog posts allow me to escape, try new things, push myself creatively and share content that I love to share here on my blog…where I make all the rules.
I thus feel excited for what’s coming next for me this year. After 4 years of being on this crazy ride now I have actually never felt as well-rounded, confident, happy and less-pressurised to follow/be the crowd than ever before.
One very important factor for me for this year though is that I am not going to work with a brand that doesn’t suit my lifestyle. I’ll only accept and share sponsored content that I truly believe in/would buy/want myself. Whilst it is important for me to still earn the pennies via this job, I want my blog to be something that people trust and believe in – and love to read. So if I do take on a project you will know that it’s something I truly endorse and that there were plenty other things I politely said ‘no thanks’ to.
There will also be FAR more chatty content and my musings on here once again too, as I go through my busy daily-life as a Mum of boy & girl twins. I love to sit down at my iMac and just write copious amounts of words and I absolutely want to get back to that again. Hey, it’s why I started – it’s why I’m still here.
So thanks for coming back, for sticking with me and for your love. And cheers to us all to a New Year.
Love, Jess x
