There are a few things that stays in my memories from my own childhood. These include my friends, school days, the pets we had, our little in-jokes, plus the many family holidays and trips we went on. And so the latter is something that I’m really keen to do with my own little family. Hopefully our own family travel will be something that also stays with my twins for a very long time and that they remember with fondness.
Getting the chance to visit the beautiful island of Majorca this August was incredibly special on a number of levels. Not only was it a great chance to escape the day-to-day hustle of life (and have a much needed change of scenery) but it was a nice way to spend some time as the four of us. At home Dave works long hours, plus weekends can feel hectic (with all the kids clubs, parties and different things we have going on) but getting away as a family unit — no work or housework distractions — was much needed and a lovely way to spend some quality time together.
We flew from Birmingham to Palma with Jet2.com and found the whole experience very smooth indeed. The aircraft was clean and comfortable. The staff on the flight were friendly and helpful and also greeting us off the plane and at check-in. We have never flown with Jet2.com before but would definitely do it again and would highly recommend them to our friends.
We stayed in the new hotel (opened in 2017) 5* Zafiro Palace Palmanova for 7 nights in a Junior Penthouse Suite on a half-board basis. It’s located in the south-western part of the island and the hotel itself is modern and contemporary with absolutely beautiful interior decor.
The hotel is in a superb location, close to the beach, as well as nearby plenty of local restaurants and bars. It was impeccably clean throughout the hotel and the furnishings were very stylish. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and great with the kids; we felt very relaxed and looked after. It’s definitely a family-friendly hotel.
We went half-board so breakfast and evening dinner included, however we sometimes swapped that for lunch and ate outside the hotel. Dinner was buffet style and had so much selection; we all really enjoyed it. The children’s options were delicious too and the twins always ate well (and they can be very fussy at home). We also dined in the al la carte Italian restaurant one evening, which was a really nice atmosphere with tasty food.
- 5 bars including a coffee bar, lobby bar, pool bar and lounge bar serving a range of local, international and premium drinks
- 5 restaurants including 1 buffet restaurant and 4 à la carte restaurants, serving a range of Italian and Japanese cuisine
There are many shops, bars and restaurants in Palma Nova to explore just a short stroll away and sometimes we did this too. There was a slight British feel nearer to the hotel, however we found some really nice restaurants to dine at and really enjoyed trying the local food.
We had a Junior Penthouse Suite which was AMAZING (top floor). It had two levels; upstairs was the jacuzzi and sunbathing area. The twins absolutely loved the jacuzzi and we all felt relaxed jumping into it after a hard day at the pool. Lots of families staying there opted for Swim-Up Junior suites, which I would recommend too as they are great for the children.
For all the room types please see here.
The twins said swimming was one of their favourite parts of the holiday. As well as the children’s pirate ship splash pool they liked the main pool in the middle of the hotel (which they could both stand up in). They spent hours jumping in, lazing on floats and diving. Plus there’s a handy pool bar in there too!
There was also full access to the swim-up pools all around the hotel so you never felt as though you couldn’t find a pool to enjoy. We especially enjoyed the Balinese beds (around the pool area) which were comfy to relax on.
- 4 outdoor pools including children’s pool and 1 adult only pool (freshwater)
- Splash park
- 2 indoor pools including 1 adult only pool
The local area
We left the hotel a few times because the beach was only a short stroll away and it was nice to swim the warm sea and make sandcastles on the beach. The beach was busy but we found it OK (it’s quite big); there were plenty of sun loungers and parasols (there is a fee).
Dave used the gym a few times and we also played family table tennis too. The twins also enjoyed the outdoor children’s play area. The daily evening entertainment was family friendly and the children liked the magic show one night (they were mesmerised).
Harry & Lottie didn’t try the kids club on this holiday but this is included in the hotel price.
There is also an on-site Spa with beauty treatments too.
The week away to the Balearic Islands to the Zafiro Palace Palmanova was exactly what we all needed this summer as it was a good mix of precious family time plus some crucial R&R. Majorca will therefore forever be etched into our hearts.
Thanks for wonderful memories.
Love, Jess x
