Ahh January. That time of year when we all want to be a little slimmer, fitter, more productive, happier…and yet outside it is freezing, dull and grey. I don’t think January is a great time to try and be a newer version of ourselves, do you?
I have, however, spent the first few weeks of January trying to get more organised; making lists and just getting back on top of life admin. I feel as though I am doing OK so far – and I must say that it’s much easier to get myself going again since the twins have been back at school. When they were at home during the holidays we fell into lazy habits, which was lovely, but the school run is forcing me to get dressed and get out more!
I have quite a lot of work deadlines too currently and so I am trying to clear those quickly, as well as trying to get back into my gym routine again.
January blues though are absolutely a REAL thing. December is such an exciting month and we’re all on such a high with the joys and events of Christmas, that January is definitely the ‘come-down month’. So planning in some nicer things is my plan for staying upbeat this month.
One of the resolutions that Dave and I have promised ourselves this year is more ‘date nights’. Even if these are simply spent at home on a Friday night with a bottle of wine, film and takeaway after the children are in bed. We have both said we need more time off our phones, just talking. Time to unwind and relax together and enjoy our company.
Getting a little dressed up and going out to dinner every now and again is also something we want to do more of too, especially now that Harry & Lottie are a little older. Our parents aren’t close by to where we live, sadly, so they aren’t on hand to babysit – but we do have a nice friend who looks after the twins for us. I have already booked her for the end of January when we plan to go into Worcester and enjoy a meal and some cocktails!
It will be our 10-year wedding anniversary in February (10 WHOLE years!) which is a great reason to celebrate. So we are going to have a night away together when my Mum is here for February half-term. Then we plan to have a child-free City break together when the weather warms up a little more.
SO excited for that.
I hope your January is going well and that you’re also putting some nice things into your diaries soon too. Let’s kick the blues away!
