My 5 things on a Friday


Hi, how are you? All good I hope — I bet you’re looking forward to the weekend.

Dave’s been away in Scotland all this week so the twins and I can’t wait for him to get home later today. I have had a busy week of work (all the deadlines seem to have landed this week!) so it’ll be nice to switch off tonight and take a weekend break. We actually have a fairly quiet one ahead, which I’m ready for.

So seeing as it is Friday (YAY) the 5 things that I wanted to share today are:

1/ Gone Girl. OMG. I have just finished this brilliant book and I hardly took a breath during the last few chapters. So tense throughout and well written. It’s been around a while but definitely worth reading if you haven’t as yet. So…what to read next?! Any recommendations? 

2/ As a result of my recent parenting issues (you can read more from last week here) I am going for a more chilled-out, zen-like approach to Motherhood and it’s definitely changed the atmosphere of our house. I have stopped shouting, I’m letting trivial things go, I have completely changed the way I talk to the children (i.e. not treating them like babies) and I’m calmer and more rational. I am also laughing more at silly things, and doing more fun things with them (like playing games and going to the park). A big thing is that I am also not looking at my phone after school pick up and am being more ‘present’. There’s still issues but I feel as though I’m getting to a happier place as a result of all of this. I’ll keep you posted.

3/ I read this great blog post by Mel Wiggins regarding Instagram this week and a LOT of it hit home with me. It’s superbly written and very accurate. Whilst I love Instagram so much — it brings me a lot of joy, inspiration, support, a sense of community (and financial reward too), it can make me feel like shite some days. One of the best things I’ve done was go on our recent holiday, (non-sponsored), not work whilst I was there, and just sit in a different location and enjoy some time with my amazing family, offline. I absolutely love using Instagram both personally and professionally, but I definitely don’t want it to rule my life or let my following/engagement determine how happy I am every day. ‘Nuff said.

4/ We’re just looking at mini-breaks for October for my 40th celebrations! Eeeek…and we’re thinking of going to Barcelona as neither of us have been and it looks and sounds amazing. Really excited at having a few days away (sans kids) to go sightseeing and shopping. Dave is currently googling hotels and seeking out good flights. What an amazing treat later on this year.


5/ And finally here are the clothes and accessories that I have got in my online shopping basket to hopefully check-out on a few new things this weekend too.

    Barcelona would be amazing Jess for your 40th celebrations. We have never been and each year I think we need a trip to the city. Sounds as if the new parenting plan is going well for you all, this whole parenting thing is definitely one long learning curve isn’t it x

    Barcelona is an amazing city – you’ll love it and perfect for exploring as a couple too. We’ve just booked a week in Cornwall for October half term which I can’t wait for. Ooh some exciting travel plans to look forward to this year. I shall read the Instagram article in a bit, that platform still baffles me but I love it! xx
