Hi everyone, how are you on this Friday? Good I hope. I hope you have a lovely weekend planned.
I have spent most of this week feeling pretty darn tired. After the twins 6th birthday last weekend (which was lovely; they had SUCH fun and got some special gifts) plus my parents staying here all weekend, I have struggled to get going all week. But I’m now very well rested and feeling well up for the weekend.
So as it’s Friday (YAY!) here are the 5 things that I wanted to share with you guys that I’ve been into this week:
Whatever you’re doing right now, stop (although please read to the end of this post first) as you must listen to this interview with Farrah Storr, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine and author of The Discomfort Zone, by Emma Gannon for her show, ‘Ctrl Alt Delete’. She talks about the notion of ‘having it all’ and making the decision not to have a family. It’s moving, very interesting and really made me think about our choices as women, i.e. career vs motherhood and whether the two can go together, harmoniously.
2. THE APPRENTICE IS JUST NOISE
Dave and I started watching ‘The Apprentice’, BBC on Wednesday night and we turned it off half-way through. I’m such a long-term fan of the show but the first few episodes are literally people just shouting at each other; it’s very embarrassing. Katie, the hilarious author of Hurrah for Gin tweeted ‘Watched 5 mins of The Apprentice and now hate everyone already’ and I totally feel the same. Maybe I’ll check back again in another 3 episodes, or so.
I’ve very nearly finished ‘Conversations With Friends’, by Sally Rooney, which I have really liked and found easy to read. The next book on my bedside table is ‘This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor’, by Adam Kay. I feel as though this has had rave reviews and I now want in on it too. I’ll report back on this one.
Dave and I are packing up our suitcases and leaving the country in 2 weeks to head off to Madrid for 4 nights (kid-free) and we’re rather giddy about it. It’s to kick off the celebrations for my 40th this year, which is technically on Christmas Eve but I am planning to milk this big birthday for as long as possible. We’re heading off to Madrid in order to catch some last sunshine of the year, plus neither of us have been. I cannot wait to eat, chat, sleep, drink, take in culture, shop and generally RELAX. So excited.
And finally, here’s what I’ve got in my online shopping basket to hopefully checkout on a few new things this weekend. There’s a rust-colour vibe going on…I’m not even sorry.
Happy Friday and weekend guys.
Love, Jess x
