My 5 things on a Friday

Hi, how are you on this Friday? Good I hope. I hope you have a lovely weekend planned.

We’ve been on half term this week, which has meant some slower mornings and no manic school run, as well as hearing “Mum” every 3 minutes (seriously, no joke). The twins absolutely loved Halloween on Wednesday; they really embraced the whole thing — getting dressed up, carving pumpkins, decorating the front door. It was quite cute and we had so many ‘trick or treaters’ at our door.

5-things-to-share-on-a-friday

So as it’s Friday (YAY!) here are the 5 things that I wanted to share with you guys that I’ve been into this week:

1. IN PRINT

As I’ve been at home a great deal with the children this week I have bought myself a couple of magazines, Grazia and Red, for when Harry & Lottie have been watching a film or playing. Even though I am a huge fan of digital information via blogs, Instagram and online magazines, I do still like to read articles in print and keep up to date with modern women’s writing.

2. WHY SOCIAL MEDIA IS RUINING YOUR LIFE

I’ve seen and read a lot about this new book by Katherine Ormerod and so I decided to get on Amazon and order myself a hard copy. Plus I’ve also been having my own doubts and issues with the impact of social media both personally and professionally over the last year and wanted to hear another perspective on it. Katherine really gets it because she’s a journalist and influencer so I’m intrigued as to what she has to say. I’ll report back asap.

3. NO SPEND OCTOBER

I had a ‘no spend October’ and really stuck to it; I enjoyed it way more than I thought. Apart from food, items for the children, presents etc I didn’t buy anything I didn’t need. Plus I didn’t buy myself anything in Madrid either. I never thought I could *not* shop for myself for that long…get me!

I feel so much better for it, plus I’m in a more comfortable financial position right now. And even though it is November I don’t even feel inclined to go crazy this month either. I heard somewhere recently that it takes 3 weeks to form a habit and so perhaps this is now Jess admitting to being a former shop-a-holic. Here’s hoping!

This week, (one day, when the children weren’t feeling too good and we had a day at home) we had a sorting day. We gathered a huge box for the charity shop of all their unwanted toys. The twins really embraced it and gave away a lot. A few days later we took it to the charity shop and I said they could buy one new thing each for being so kind and giving so much away. It was really positive. Plus it showed them how to recycle and re-use, which they’ve been covering in school lately.

4. FOOD

I started the podcast ‘Table Manners‘ with Jessie Ware and her Mother, Lennie, where they have celebrities round to dinner for chat. A friend recommended it to me and it’s already rocketed up to being one of my favourites. Warm, friendly and really funny. I’m hooked.

5. CLOTHES

And finally, here’s what I’ve picked out of the high street to share with you today. It’s mostly coats focused because it’s been BLOODY FREEZING this week and I am obsessed with them once more. Here for you if you do need a seasonal update or just want to see what styles are in fashion this season.

Happy weekend and take care guys.

Love, Jess x
