My 5 things on a Friday

Hi, how are you on this Friday? Good I hope. I hope you have a lovely weekend planned.

I’ve had a nice productive week; catching up on housework, getting my hair done, ploughing through work emails. I also have a rather lovely weekend coming up; as you read this I’ll be in Birmingham ready to sing my heart out with four mates at a Florence and The Machine gig, which is a group I have literally always wanted to see. I am very excited.

So as it’s Friday (YAY!) here are the 5 things that I wanted to share with you guys that I’ve been into this week:

Oh my, have you seen it? It’s lush. John Lewis seem to nail it every year and this one is as much a tear jerker and feel-good advert as all the rest. As a result of seeing it I actually feel incredibly festive now and totally up for Christmas. If you haven’t seen it yet then I urge you to watch it right now.

As well as the Florence and The Machine concert I am at tonight (eeeek) I also went to see Mama Mia last weekend with my Mum and my Sister, which has meant that I now cannot stop singing ABBA songs. Gosh it is such a feel-good musical and I absolutely love it (it’s my second time seeing it). I have thus been playing more music in the car and out loud in our kitchen (via Alexa). As a result it’s had such a positive and happy affect on our home. The twins are loving dancing away and seeing me trying to hit the high notes…*FYI, I can’t*. Which got me thinking this week – isn’t music truly wonderful? I had forgotten just how much joy and warm feeling it brings.

When I was a teen and a young woman music was such a large and integral part of my life. ‘Being current’ was so important, as was letting yourself go along to music after a long week. It was a big way of socialising, as well as relaxing with friends. So music is now something I want to pick up again and carry on enjoying and also encouraging my children to enjoy. So as ABBA would say, “Thank you for the music, for giving it to me”.

I really enjoyed this podcast episode from Sara Tasker featuring stand up comic Viv Groskop regarding public speaking and how to get more confident at it. To be honest, not only is this great for anyone having to talk to people for a living, but also really useful for anyone who has to speak in meetings at work, in group situations, network with new people, or for anyone who is required to regularly engage with an audience. You can find the link here.

So if my plans for the weekend, as well as everyone else’s around you, is causing you anxiety to have the ‘perfect’ weekend yourself, then you must read this by Harling Ross for Man Repeller on ‘The stress of having a good weekend’. I do actually agree with this and think that social media only compounds the issue with everyone posting how much of a good time they’re having in their two days off. It’s a great piece.

And finally, here’s what I’ve picked out of the UK high street to share with you today. It’s mostly boots focused, because boots are the best footwear for autumn and winter. The ankle boot is literally a hero piece of clothing for me at this time of year. Here for you if you do need a seasonal update or just want to see what styles are in fashion this season.

Happy weekend and take care guys.

Love, Jess x

That’s the first time I’ve seen the John Lewis ad and having heard so many mixed reviews, I was a little unenthusiastic about watching but I think it’s great! Not quite as Christmassy as their usual but certainly brings all of the goosebumps! Florence and the Machine? I love them! Hope you have an awesome night. xx

I am still not sure about the John Lewis ad but I totally agree about how music can be totally uplifting. I always put my spotify on loud in the morning when I am having a tidy up. I bet Florence as amazing x
