Skincare goals this year

Beauty products and skincare for 2018

Another post about my 2018 goals, ha ha! Sorry for all the goals spam lately but I have another good (and necessary) one to add to my wish-list for 2018. It’s regarding investing in better beauty products for my daily skincare routine because I’m at a point where I genuinely feel as though I need to focus on this far more.

I’ve never been the kind of girl to spend a lot on beauty products though. Clothes, OH YES, but make-up and creams haven’t been on my radar much. I’ve always had all the essentials (and I like to wear make-up every day) but I’ve never felt compelled to spend a complete fortune on my face. It’s not that I have great skin either, I really haven’t – it was my Sister who was blessed with a beautiful complexion – and so I don’t have that excuse. I had quite bad acne when I was a teenager and these days my skin looks/feels tired and damaged too. I guess I’ve just always chosen to invest my money elsewhere.

Until now.

I’ve only been 39 for a few weeks now (since my birthday on Christmas Eve) but there’s something about being at the end of a decade that makes you start to question everything you do and purchase. I’ve thus recently been evaluating my clothes (see here), my outlook on life (see here) and – now – my face. I’m definitely more interested and keen to use better products that will work hard for me.

Face cream

The lovely people at L’Occitane have recently sent me their Divine Cream to try. It retails at £78 (50ml) – so it is rather expensive for a face cream – however, I have heard REALLY good things about it. I am therefore excited to see the results…although I always remain dubious about how much some cream can change your face!

L’Occitane claims that Divine Cream is a daily complete face moisturiser that fights against visible signs of ageing, so with my age right now this does actually sound like my perfect companion. Plus it is one of their best selling products.

I have been using it for a few days now and it feels nice and I do feel better about my skincare already. I will definitely keep you posted on this one.

Dry skin

Ugh, winter time and the dry effect it has on my hands is awful. Every time I wash my hands they feel lacking in moisture. Hand cream is therefore like my BFF at the moment and I need to use it several times a day. Santa (aka Dave) kindly brought me a selection of hand cream from L’Occitane and they’re brilliant and just what I needed.

For my dry lips I recently treated myself to this Jo Malone, Lip Conditioner (15ml). It’s a little like vaseline in texture but I love the small, easy-to-use tube it comes in. It is a little pricey but honestly this is fantastic. I keep it on my desk and apply it during the day. I highly recommend it for anyone suffering from chapped lips this winter. I will be definitely be buying another when this runs out.

Another lovely Christmas present that I received this year was this Miss Dior perfume. I love the fresh smell and the bottle is pretty cute too. It has made a nice addition to my dressing table in my dressing room. I’m hoping to try some Jo Malone fragrances out too this year and will be popping into town soon to try some out. Because a girl needs a little luxury in her life now, doesn’t she?!

What stunning photos and such a beautiful dressing table set up too! All these products look gorgeous- I love the Miss Dior scent. My current favourite is Issey Miyake- it’s not one you hear talked about often but it’s a stunning scent. I also have the L’Occitane hand creams. My hands are really suffering this winter and they’re always a winner for me. Some hand creams can be really hit and miss xx

I’m a massive beauty junky and definitely spend way too much money on lotions and potions… but they make me very happy so I don’t see me stopping any time soon. When it comes to skincare I’m a big fan of Clarins and Dermalogica and makeup I love Pixi by Petra, Bobbi Brown and Autograph by M&S. Good luck with your new beauty routine and let me know if you want any advice xxx

I use Divine Eyes by LOccitane and I love it!! I’ve bought a few pots of the stuff now too — which is always a good sign. I’m not particularly brand loyal — unless I find something that I really love. But it works. And given the fact I’m *almost* closer to 50 than 40, that’s a pretty good thing! Not tried the face cream — that’s on my radar though.

My favourite perfume was discontinued a few years ago and I’ve been hunting hight and low for a replacement. Not found ‘the one’ yet, but will keep searching! It’s out there somewhere! xx

Interestingly, I’ve been looking at L’Occitane a lot recently as it was mentioned by a few people who put forward their favourite beauty products for my post about beauty for the over 40s. I’m dying to try this Divine range! Caro above, mentioned that she swears by their eye cream. The price is a little eye watering though, I’m keen to see how you get on with this face cream 🙂

I barely spend anything on skincare – I use Boots Soltan factor 50 suncream on my face all year round during the day (and nothing at night), and Nivea lip balm on my lips. I too have really cracked, dry and sore hands and have recently discovered Flexitol hand cream (£5 something in Boots) and it is MAGIC. Within a day they were looking and feeling better, and after a week they’re completely healed and much less dry. I always gaze longingly at the expensive stuff but I think the less fancy stuff can work wonders too. It’s just not quite as pretty to look at 🙂

Like you I hardly spend on looking after my skin but this is something I’m keen to change. I don’t think I can quite stretch to L’Occitane prices just yet though, as gorgeous as they seem. I’m finding having a skincare routine is helping me, especially at bedtime. I now have my make up remover, night cream and eye cream on my bedside table to remind me to use them each night. So far so good. Love your styling in this post by the way, so pretty! x
