Using Amazon Home Services to create a home gym (for our busy family life)

Over the last few years, with regards to keeping fit and healthy, Dave and I have tried it all. Being gym members, joining clubs, local groups, going to exercise classes etc. However, as parents of young twins it’s really hard to manage all of these commitments around our full family life, house errands, as well as having time to see each other.

Both of us feel SO much better when we are fitter though. It improves our moods, we feel happier about ourselves (hello toned thighs!), as well as the positive qualities of being healthier.

Fitness is definitely something that we have both agreed that we need in our lives; it’s just that balance of trying to squeeze it all in.

We have therefore recently decided to bring exercise to us. Making everything easier and more convenient. We need to make exercise more accessible and to cut down on the time we spend getting there, doing the activity and then getting home and showering/getting ready.

Our plans are to extend our home gym (the double garage) and make it a place that both of us can use for our fitness goals!

Having a home gym means that there’s no excuse to avoid it because of the commute to a private gym plus there’s no expensive monthly fee either. Once the few big items of equipment have been bought they will last us a long time and we can also pick exactly what we want to suit our needs.

Amazon Home Services kindly got in touch with me recently asking if we’d like to try the newly launched UK offering, and I was delighted to say yes. I wasn’t aware of Amazon Home Services before, but it looks great and definitely a brilliant resource for busy parents, like us.

Basically, if you purchase a product, such as a rowing machine (like us) you can also select for a service provider to come out to your home and help put the item together (at an extra cost).

They can also offer this on many lifestyle products – for example TV wall mounting, garden furniture, plumbing, electrical work and DIY services like fitting shelves and putting together furniture.

The service is there to help busy people and to support people who need extra help with assembly, so you don’t need to do the work yourself. Which means the item gets delivered and built, and you are ready to go!

Other features I like about this service include:

  • Amazon thoroughly vets service providers, so you can rest easy knowing you’re getting top-notch service from trusted professionals
  • Services are pre-packaged with upfront pricing so you know what to expect
  • It’s quick and convenient – just a few clicks and you can buy the product you want and the service to assemble/install it

For us, having a specialist to come out and assemble our new rowing machine is so helpful. We will also look at doing this for other items such as a treadmill.

Dave has just started training for a triathlon and I am now training for a 10k race with my friends in September, and so we are excited to use the home gym to help us build our fitness levels.

No excuses to avoid working out now!

Love, Jess x

Jess!!! You’ve just given me an amazing idea. We have a double garage with nothing in it other than a lawnmower. I never thought about creating a mini gym. That’s genius!!

Love the idea of a home gym but we really don’t have the space. I really like to swim anyway so it suits me to go to the gym. I’ve just discovered your blog and have enjoyed having a peek around, particularly at the interiors content!
