A new design for the playroom

Creating a new playroom with Dulux

I wrote recently about our plans for the twins playroom. I wanted it to be a place for them to currently play and learn, but also (longer-term), a space they can share as their den – i.e. to watch DVD’s, play computer games and hang out with their friends.

To help me along with my ideas and designs I had a consultation with Dulux Amazing Space last week. The half an hour meeting was with Michelle, a Dulux Design Expert, and we had the chat from the comfort of my own home and online – via Google hangout.

Included in the £75 is the following:

1/ Firstly you answer some questions online, about your style and the room you want to transform.

2/ Then you have a 30-minute chat to discuss initial ideas with your very own Dulux Design Expert.

3/ Once you’re happy, your Dulux Design Expert will create your unique style guide, which includes a floor plan and 3D room visualisation.

4/ Then you use your style guide and interactive shopping list to bring your amazing space to life.

Here is our playroom, as it currently looks:

Transforming the old playroom

After chatting through my ideas and preferred styles with Michelle; what I liked and disliked, my favourite colours and products..here are the outcomes below of our discussion!

Playroom ideas Playroom ideas - 2 Playroom ideas - 3

Based on my preferences, Michelle has created these amazing and superb designs for me! I think it looks so inspiring and gives me a real idea of how the room could look!

You don’t have to buy the Dulux paint that they suggest, nor the accessories/furniture, but they do give you all the links to products you may require as a result of the whole design process. There is also a budget to suit all needs and I went for around £200. These product links are now all accessed through my person log-in & account, as shown as an example below.

Dulux amazing space - our family playroom

After initially not knowing where to start or what direction to go in I am now feeling SO inspired to create this in the room and absolutely LOVE it. Michelle has given me the foresight to think about the corners of the room, as well as using the space in a different way. She has kept in the large L-shaped sofa (at my request) and worked it into the room so well. It feels less ‘nursery’ and looks far more stylish.

A new family playroom

I have since ordered the Grey Steel 3 paint she suggested and Hubby and I are going to paint the family room soon. I am also going to pick up some of the soft furnishings she suggested and rearrange the room to suit. I will keep you posted!

What do you think? Could you use a design consultation for a room in your house?

Love, Jess x

Wow that is so good! This really caught my eye as I am in the middle of doing our playroom at the moment. It was the garage and so has had to be fully insulated and we are adding a window. I could really do with some help pulling it all together though, this looks really useful. x

Wow is definitely the right word! It looks so realistic – what a great way to get a feel for a design. It does sound like a great service and for great price. I think your kids will love their new room! Philippa x

That looks brilliant, looks like they’ve really listened to what you need from the room! Looks really stylish but not too grownup, perfect 🙂

What a fab service! The mock ups are great, you can really get a good feel for what the room would be like in each style. I could definitely see myself using something like this – we’ve got a room that’s really multi-purpose and needs sorting!

Ahh that would be lovely! I could do with that for the office or our bedroom, seen as they are both half done! It’s a very clever idea if you don’t know what you want x #HomeEtc

Oh I would love a design consultation for our main space! I can’t quite get it to work and as that is where we spend most of our time, it is really annoying! Your plans for the playroom look fab. Loving the colour scheme #HomeEtc

What a great service, it really allows you to see the room which for a lot of people is the only way they can really decide. Defo saves painting twice.

Love the new design, can’t wait to see it finished xx

A design consultation is not something I’d consider – however, this is a really good idea. I love the different views of the finished room. Makes picking colours so much easier. Good luck with the room, it’s a lovely space.
