The Berber style rug

The Berber style rug

“Another rug” sighed Dave as this one arrived in the post! I do think I may have an actual rug addiction – but in my defence – they are cosy, it’s still winter and this one is particularly on trend and utterly gorgeous.

I have been lusting after a Moroccan-inspired Berber-style rug for some time now. I like to research a trend, or a style, quite a lot before jumping onto it myself. So I realise that I’m a bit late to the party with this one, but hey ho. Here it is. In my home!

I have just bought this gorgeous new one (which is amazingly soft underfoot) from Next. I got the 120cm x 170cm which fits the large space well and cost £90.

It goes perfectly with the ‘greenery’ pieces that I have started to add in. Greenery was identified by Pantone as the colour of 2017. They said:

“It is a refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings. Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate”.

Because Pantone said so, it is therefore incredibly on trend right now. Think green walls, palm tree wallpaper, over-sized plants and cacti and you’ll be there. It’s gorgeous and goes nicely in a modern home like our new-build home, or looks equally as stylish in a period-style home.

The Berber rug - a key trend of 2017

Even though I adore all these pieces in our hallway, it is in fact about to get a BIG make-over in a few weeks time, in association with Dulux for a project I am working on with them. It is getting painted and I will be adding in even more new accessories! I am currently deciding which colour to go for. The space is very open, large and light – and so I could go for anything really! Exciting times!

Have you embraced the greenery – or got yourself a Berber style rug yet?

Love, Jess x

That rug is gorgeous but I could not have it in a high traffic area. I can just imagine the kids not wiping their feet properly!! 🙂 x

Hmmm yes I agree and I might move it actually soon – although we tend to come and go from the utility room so the hallway tends to stay pretty clean xx

This does have such a welcoming feel, I want to walk in and snuggle my feet in it for sure xxx

I love the rug! It looks fab and so cosy! I’m definitely a fan of Greenery (bit obvious given my most recent blog post!). I’m sure we’ll be seeing a LOT of it in the next few months! Philippa x #HomeEtc

I love the rug. I like your greenery too. I like greener in the home too.

What a beautiful rug and it suits your hall so well. I have a similar style one which I get lots of comments on. You’re right, it looks really cool with the greenery x #HomeEtc

Yay, Greenery! I’ve loved working on my greenery blog post. The rug looks so tactile and soft. I have to say the star of the show is the fake cactus though! I love it! I look forward to seeing what you do with Dulux. As you say, it’s a light and airy space so anything goes! #homeetc

Oh, I LOVE that rug. I’ve had insta envy of anyone that has that kind. I want one, but we’re moving house this year so we’ve got a bit of a ban on buying homeware until we move, boo! xx

  9. January 27, 2017 / 12:53 pm

Oh wow, that rug looks so so soft, like you’d want to roll around on it! I’m hearing a lot about this greenery trend, can’t wait to see your next makeover! x

I have ordered myself a new rug from Wayfair today (there will probably be a blog post on it soon haha) It took me so long to find the design I wanted, your new one looks so cosy under foot! Excited to see what you do with your hallway, it always seems like such a nice bright space. x

Love this space! The fake plant is great.
I did laugh about your rug addiction!!

  12. January 30, 2017 / 2:35 pm

That made me laugh. That’s what my husband says about cushions. Although I will admit I’ve messed up here! Anyway – love the rug, I’m just imagining it under my very cold tootsies as I sit here. I really like the style too. You can never have too many rugs Jess, do not fear. Beautifully styled as always #HomeEtc

NO!! I’m definitely not getting a Berber rug!!! LOL!!! Have got an old rug with diamonds on weirdly enough but it’s not shaggy like the ones I keep seeing. I get a bit fed up seeing an influx of the same thing on social media — last year it was light boxes, this year it’s the Berber rug!

But I *AM* getting into embracing Greenery. I didn’t like it initially, but it’d grown on me and I have a couple of ideas on ways to bring it into our home. Cannot WAIT to see what you do with your hall/Dulux!! V exciting!!! 🙂 xxxxx #HomeEtc

I want more plants in my house this year, I don’t have enough but never know where is right to put them. But like you have shown in this, anywhere you want! They work well in the hall, and with the light coloured rug, they give it a great shot of colour.
