Book storage for the playroom

Book storage for kids

I am at a point within our home where the twins now have a HUGE collection of children’s books. They get a new book for every birthday & Christmas, plus they have library books, books from school and ones from car boots sales/charity shops. We therefore have accumulated many books throughout the last four years.

Book storage is subsequently something that is high up on my priority list for their playroom and bedrooms.

This new book case from Tidy Books that we have been kindly sent recently is therefore brilliant. It is tall (but they can still reach the top) and holds plenty of titles (around 85). Everything we love can be stored in here – from Julia Donaldson to the classic Disney ones. Plus I love the a-z colourful lettering on the front.

It is currently freestanding but we will fix it to the wall shortly.

It is £135 and comes in a range of styles and colours (can be personalised too).

Book cases seem to help them find their books easily and encourage them to read – because they are displayed well and within easy reach. The twins seem to read more willingly themselves rather than when the books are piled up or stacked in a corner.

“8 in 10 kids who are above average readers have books of their own at home” – National Literacy Trust Book Ownership Report 2011.

I’ve said it before but we LOVE reading books in our family; it is one of my favourite things to do together with the twins. No phones, no TV, no distraction, just lovely story telling and plenty of interaction. Chatting away and having cuddles.

Love, Jess x

I love these bookcases, I always think they are so much better when they can see the front of the books. It does seem to encourage them to pick them up more often. We have books everywhere in our house but they are the one thing I don’t mind having loads of, you can never have enough books! That first photo of Lottie is adorable too 🙂 xx

This book case looks fab. Amelia has so so many books it’s unreal, definitely could do with another book case for her. I really like these forward facing ones so you can see the book covers perfect for little ones looking for books!

Love a house full of books! This is a good idea for the children to see the front of their books. Do the letters come off? As I can imagine you could use these as shelves for other things as the children grow older – good for displaying collections maybe?

I don’t think they do but you can order it with the children’s names etc – very cute! xx

This style of bookshelf is great for children. Our kindergarten has them in every group and they are a big hit with the children.

Oh our house has always been full of book and the girls have always had their own, my niece still comes to borrow from Ellie’s collections even when she is away – books are so important. I love a nice book shelf too to keep them tidy, this one is idea and great that it is at the twin’s height. Thanks for hosting xx

Nothing makes me happier than hearing about families that love reading – especially children these days! I felt like when I was little there was very little else to do other than read but now there are so many alternative options. The bookcase looks great and really fits in well with your home Xx

I agree! Reading is SO important – and it is nice to do away from the distraction of screens!! xx

I love these bookshelves! We have picture rails where we display favourite books at the moment, but we’re going to need something bigger as the collection grows. I do love displaying the front covers – so much more appealing for kids, and plus kids books are so pretty it’s a waste to line them all up with just the spines showing!

These book cases remind me of school, but are obviously much more modern and nicer to have in the house! Really handy and great that they can be easily accessed by the little ones. I love reading with my nieces and can’t wait until our little one arrives in November and I can start stocking up on bedtime stories 🙂 #HomeEtc

This is a really great version of this type of bookcase as it does hold so many books yet it’s still accessible. We have the same problem with so many books, which is exactly how it should be of course but it’s nice to have some child-friendly storage for them! 🙂 Philippa x #HomeEtc

I love these bookscases. I’ve seen them on a few blogs now and really like how easy it is for children to see and select their favourite books x

Love the alphabet on this – so cute. We really need to get a book case where all of the covers are on show – we currently use a floating book shelf which isn’t at all practical since Taylor can’t even reach them. I’ll be updating her room within the next year and something like this is definitely on my wishlist! xx #HomeEtc

I love this, I think it’s great to have somewhere where the books can be put away and it looks tidy. I love that is white and the colourful alphabet makes it fun.
My eldest loves reading and he has lot’s of books but at the moment they are a bit all over the place.

We’ve got an almost identical one that I picked up on a Facebook sales page!! Ours is wooden though and when we bought it, I said I was going to paint it white!!! How funny!!! They’re fab aren’t they? The boys have got SO many books — this has been a godsend. Great taste lovely!! 😉 xx Caro #HomeEtc
