Keeping cosy at home this Autumn

Keeping cosy at home this Autumn

With the change in season and the weather getting cooler outside (how chilly does it feel today?!) our family starts spending FAR more time indoors together. Autumn makes me want to be snuggled up in the warm, with a hot coffee and under a blanket.

A new season of weather also means new home styling – so this is a perfect excuse for me to update our home with new accessories that are inspired by the season of Autumn.

Cushions

The drop in temperature outside suddenly makes me want a cosier living room with a cosy sofa and warm cushions and throws. Do you find that too? Faux fur and velvet being some of my favourites textures this season. Even though my home is quite minimalist and white, I try to keep my look interesting with a wide variety of colours, shapes, and sizes.

Candles

Candles are a super way of adding warmth, fragrance and soft lighting into a living area. I love lighting ours on cold evenings as it really makes our space feel snug and cosy.

Rugs

We have been adding plenty of rugs into our new-build home over the last few months and they are starting to now take centre stage as Autumn arrives. Because, who wants to take their shoes off to feel the cold hard ground?! Laying down some plush rugs has meant that the house now feels warmer and cosier.

I still absolutely love my new thick-pile arctic white one in my study (shown below).

And our new grey stripe living room rug (below) was also recently featured on the Laura Ashley website too.

Adding warmth into a room for autumn

The bedroom

I recently painted the feature wall of our bedroom using Valspar paint for a project in association with Mumsnet. I tried out their colour-match process and selected a lovely cushion that we already owned in duck egg blue – to give the room an Autumnal and cosy feel. I took the twins along to our local B&Q and the Valspar expert matched us a paint up. Then it was home to paint!

So that’s how I have been transforming our family home to be cosy and stylish this Autumn! Are you planning to add any accessories or home decor into your home this season?

Love, Jess x

I love your bedroom, my one definitely needs some attention. It tends to be the dumping ground at the minute!! I’m completely in love with my candles though – they make a room look so cosy! X

Lovely and cosy, I have already added some ochre throws in the lounge, which feel nice and autumnal, candles are everywhere in my house (and outside) I love.. love … love them. I don’t have any rugs since moving but I do have my nice new plush carpets… I opted for laminate in the kitchen this time as my last house had tiles and I said never again, too cold and way too much hard work to keep clean. I have also just put my curtain up in the bedroom to make it feel cosier… However, none of this is really working, when I am freezing cold and my boiler has just packed up ! Grrrrr xx #HomeEtc

I LOVE all of this Jess. I’ve been trying to make our minimalist living room and dining room space feel more cosy and these are all ideas that I’ll be using. We need some more rugs and that thick pile one is gorgeous. xx

I’ve also just splashed out on lots of new cushions and candles – you can’t beat them for snuggling up and feeling cosy as autumn comes in. Although I’m clearly craving spring, I’ve gone pale pink and minty green for my colour scheme, not very autumnal! #HomeEtc

Candles are definitely key for me throughout autumn/winter and I actually miss using them as much in the warmer months. I’m just super excited about our log delivery later in the month, can’t wait to see what the kitten makes of the extra warmth. I just love that colour in your bedroom xx #HomeEtc

Rugs are such a great way to cosy up the home, the fluffier the better! I really want to get some new ones but we are waiting to decorate the living room next year and I don’t want to do it until twins are a bit older. I love putting candles about too, lovely time of year xx

I just love autumn, and getting all snuggly. All your autumn additions are lovely. I’m off to Scotland tomorrow so I’m looking forward to seeing what local goodies I can bring home – I’m thinking a nice woollen throw for sure 🙂

Your bedroom is one of my faves ever! I LOVE Autumn and making the house feel cosy, I’m thinking of adding a bit of a faux fire in our big empty fireplace with a grate, real wood and twinkly lights, surrounded by candles… it’s all in my head right now though! #HomeEtc

Looking fab. I can’t wait to Autumn-Up. Having builders in and the door open for long periods has made it feel a little ‘cold’ here – a bit like that feel when you come back from holiday so I’m looking forward to reclaiming my home with a bit of heating and warm smells, flowers and people. Thanks for hosting #HomeEtc

For me it’s all about colour and throws. I’m a big fan of the stereotypical orange for Halloween but it goes so beautifully against our dark walls that I can’t resist! Can’t wait to go pumpkin picking next week and kit out the house 🙂
