New decking and transforming our garden

Relaxing in our garden on our new decking this summer

Dave and I are *those* kind of people. The ones where we will be chatting away, discussing an idea, (such as creating a new decked area in our garden) and then a few hours later the wood is ordered, the hole is being dug and the furniture being planned out.

This is a true story! It happened a few weeks ago when we were casually sitting on some integrated outside decking at David Lloyd health club and I said “This would look nice in our garden”. Dave agreed and when we got home we were mapping it out and planning how to use the space.

One of the issues we have had with our new-build garden (since we moved in nearly two years ago) is that our patio area has never felt large enough. Even though we have a nice table and chairs set, it never makes us want to just sit out and relax in the garden. It feels formal and more focused on dining.

To give Dave all the credit (because he totally deserves it) he completely owned this project and delivered it! I had nothing to do with it all – apart from at the end when the cushions and decor needed ordering! He dug the site out himself, laid all the decking and has since been arranging all the grass to grow back around it. He did a really good job seeing as he has never done such a renovation before.

We are all absolutely delighted with it. It has transformed our garden and outside living space. It now means that we have an area to relax and chill out as a family, as well as entertaining friends for a BBQ during the summer months. It feels cosy and inviting.

I have always wanted a sofa, table and cosy chairs in our garden and this rattan effect set from JYSK that we have kindly have been sent by them is lovely. Sturdy, stylish and very good quality but also very reasonably priced.

As you can see the twins love their children’s chairs and the whole area is great for them to sit and get some shade from the heat, as well as enjoy drinks and snacks.

It has also become a really nice place for Dave and I to sit at night after the children have gone to bed and enjoy a glass of Prosecco or two! We also cannot wait to entertain our friends and family when they come to visit. Perfect for midsummer evenings and watching the sun go down after a busy day!

Aaah it looks AMAZING!!!!!!! Well done that man!!!! We are exactly the same though — I had a bit of a fit the other day and now we’re giving the kitchen a mini face-lift — we were tiling a couple of weekends ago and are having the floor laid tomorrow!!! But hey. If you don’t take action things will only ever be dreams right? At leat that’s what I tell poor Dickie when he’s cursing me for all my bright ideas!! xx

It looks incredible! I wish my husband and I were as proactive as you two, we dither for ages and never get around to anything! Our new garden is just a lawn and a few paving slabs so this has definitely inspired me to think about our outdoor space more. xx

Go Dave! He’s done a fantastic job, it looks like such a great area to sit in. When the weather is like it is right now, you just want somewhere to chill out and have a cold drink, and that goes for the kids too! Super-stylish too (as always!) x

My husband and I are the exact opposite – we have a huge list of things to do around the house and garden and none of it ever gets done because we’re both rubbish at making decisions! We did get our garden sorted at the end of last year and need some outdoor furniture – yours looks lovely!
