The beginning of a new year compels me to want to make fresh, new changes in my personal and work life. I also want to make changes to our family home too and get those outstanding jobs completed. After all, our house is a sanctuary that the four of us love to spend a great deal of time in.
Whilst they aren’t major changes that are needed, there are still some jobs to do. We moved into our new-build property about 18 months ago and there are some projects that need finishing and that are bugging me a little. All they need is a bit of focus and effort to get them sorted out!
Setting goals for a home can be uplifting – plus achieving them is SUCH a great feeling!
I like seeing other peoples homes via Instagram where I get a lot of influence and ideas. I also get a lot of inspiration from Pinterest; it’s my favourite place to source home & interiors images and get very inspired with key trends and fashion.
Here are some of my favourite images (below) from Pinterest currently including the styles & colours that are catching my eye.
So if you’re feeling ready to set some housey goals too then here is some of my advice below:
In the new year I usually start by having a good clear out, mostly because it makes me feel better but it also helps to minimise my time spent clearing and tidying up all year round. I am then focused on creating storage solutions to help stow away all the stuff we need. I’m talking shoes racks, shelving, wardrobes etc. Dave and I are pretty ruthless with items we haven’t used for a few years; we usually sell it or give it away to charity. De-cluttering is the key to starting any project.
I am going to finish painting over the rest of the magnolia that our new-build home was decorated in when we moved in. The main rooms have been changed but some rooms are still desperate for a new colour. A lick of paint freshens up any space and also signifies new beginnings, plus it is an inexpensive way of updating the décor. I’d like to keep things fresh looking by using white and grey.
Last year I added a lot of new accessories into my home and I have been so happy with them. I went for a lot of modern pieces to compliment our contemporary home.
I’d like to continue with this by adding new cushions, rugs, bedding and prints – as well as adding some practical items too such as blinds and mirrors. I think a few trips to Dunelm, Ikea and Homesense are due soon!
I’ll definitely keep you posted.
So a very Happy New Year to you and do enjoy updating your home too!
Love, Jess x
