One rug: two ways

Styling a rug from Matalan two ways

The lovely people at Matalan contacted me recently and asked me if I’d like to select a rug from their superb homeware range and then style that rug in my home, two ways. This was indeed great timing because we are still putting in all the finishing touches to our new-build family home that we bought over 12 months ago!

I wrote recently in a blog post about the change in season and the weather getting cooler outside which inevitably means that our family starts spending more time indoors together. The arrival of Autumn makes me want to be snuggled up in the warm, with a hot coffee and under a blanket. It also means that, with little expense, I can bring in a new look by adding little touches into my home that are inspired by the season of Autumn.

I selected the Grey Imperial Rug – £109, from their online rug collection. The rug is thick, cosy and feels such great quality, plus I absolutely adore the colour. Grey goes with everything and is therefore multifunctional.

// LIVING ROOM

So onto the first room – our living room – which we use as our main family room to relax and watch movies. We spend a lot of time in here at weekends chilling out together, especially when the weather is cold & wet and the nights are dark. I put the rug in front of our fireplace (an electric fire) because it seemed to be the perfect size and fit. I absolutely love it in here with the candles lit, watching TV, sipping a hot cuppa whilst the children play on the floor! Perfect.

// DRESSING ROOM

The next room I styled the rug for was my dressing room. I realise it sounds a little self-infludgent to have my own dressing room but let me explain that it also contains the washing basket, ironing basket and ironing board! Plus anything else that doesn’t belong anywhere in our house! However, most of this little space is where I keep a large wardrobe just for me (yay!) as well as my other little bits & bobs, such as handbags, scarves, shoes, boots, jewellery and makeup.

Here is the rug in front of a storage unit that I use to keep hidden away all my ‘stuff’.

So there, a grey rug styled two ways! But what I particularly love about this rug is that it looks good in any room really. It goes with our neutral, modern decor and really has added warmth and texture into our spaces. Ideal for the Autumn / Winter months ahead.

What do you think? Which room do your prefer it in?

Love, Jess x

    It looks great in both rooms, as you say grey is so multi functional. But you can’t beat a cosy rug in the living room at Winter, especially when the fire’s lit and the films are on! #HomeEtc xx

    Now, after immersing myself in the whole Hygge thing earlier this week for a post (that’ll pop up in Homeect next week) I have to say that is one Hyggey rug! It looks so tactile. Plus its not too grey, if that makes sense. It goes in both places but when the fire is on I’d want to be sitting on it by the fire. #homeetc

    Ooh that is a lovely rug! It does look fab in the living room but I imagine it would be lovely under foot in the dressing room. The colours would look fab in my living room too. I must say I wouldn’t have thought of matalan for a rug but clearly I should! Xx #homeetc
