September, and new beginnings

New home decor for my home office

Monday morning will see our family return back to our pre-summer routine. It will mean that the twins are once again attending at preschool three days a week and I’ll be subsequently working again.

The six-week summer holidays have been fantastic this time around. Last summer was much tougher for me; the twins were still quite little (they were about to turn three), plus we had only just moved to the area and so I didn’t know anyone. I found the long break over the 2015 summer holidays quite difficult. But this year has been really, really good fun. We’ve done so much, enjoyed each other a great deal and it has whizzed by.

However, it will still be good from Monday onwards to get back into working from home once more – and fitting my freelance writing & blogging jobs back into the weekdays. It will be nice not to work like a maniac every night! Plus I am looking forward to fitting exercise and fitness back into my week again after we recently became members of David Lloyd.

On the days that the twins attend preschool I spend a lot of my time working and creating content in my home office, which we made into my working space when we moved into our new-build home twelve months ago. I love being in here; it’s peaceful and it helps with my creativity. During the day a few people amble past the window walking their dogs and then on sunny days the light pours into the room making it feel bright and welcoming.

The room has been painted white and the decor is simple. The desk that my Hubby built for me is ideal, as it means I can spread out all my paperwork & equipment!

The very kind people at My Rug Store have sent me the most gorgeous rug to complete the modern and contemporary decor in here. With Autumn approaching (errrr, how cold has it been getting these last few days?!) this new thick rug has really given it a cosy and luxury feel underfoot, which I am going to need in the Winter.

I’ve gone for a shaggy rug in arctic white which is priced at £199.99.

New rug to cosy up the space New beginnings in September A new rug - My Rug Store New start and fresh ideas

I have been grabbing my notebook, magazines & books and laying them out onto my new rug to start collating ideas for the months ahead. My head is whirring with information and I can’t wait to get started!

I am feeling so inspired for the next few months – I think it might be something to do with September and new beginnings – and I have some interesting and exciting ventures ahead. Watch this space!

Love, Jess x

September always feels like a new beginning for me, usually because it’s the start of the new school year for me and a clean slate with new classes. This year, although I’m not returning for a while yet, with O starting school we have a new routine to find, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what that brings. xx

September is a bit like January except with nicer weather. I’m sad that our days will be dictated by routines again but I’m hoping everything runs smoothly. Xx

Love this! I wrote a post about September and new beginnnings (although had a major tech problem with all of my Sept posts and long story short GO Daddy told me to copy them all and they were about to be lost (which they are) and now I have the laborious task of pasting them all into new posts and adding all of the photos again! Grrrrrrr x #HomeEtc

That looks amazing Jess. Really calm and tranquil and I can imagine lots of creativity taking place in this room. It made me feel chilled just looking at it. That is on my list for a few months time. I say this surrounded by debris and boxes mid loft-conversion where I am perched in the corner of a room with lots of items that shouldn’t be in here. Like a bathroom suite! Enjoy your lovely space. Thank you for hosting #HomeEtc

Cant wait to hear of your new ventures! I love how with blogging you don’t always foresee what is around the corner. The rug looks great, something to snuggle your toes into while you work, especially during the colder months to come x #HomeEtc

September far outweighs January for new beginnings, and as much as I have loved having the kids off it is time for routine again. I love the rug and if I were you I would have a sneaky snooze on it x

    • September 11, 2016 / 7:29 pm

I agree – it’s becoming the new January isn’t it xx

  17. September 11, 2016 / 8:03 pm

September has always felt like that to me, far more than January does. I’m hoping to start a college course next week to train to work in a support role in primary schools. The last time I was in the same college building was 20 years ago! Enjoy your home office…it looks gorgeous 💞 #HomeEtc

It’s so weird isn’t it? Even though I’ve not been at school for years, September always does feel like a ‘new’ year!! Love it — so nice to have a bit of an autumn clean and get things ready for the new season. Love your new rug — I’ve had one from there for my office but I love it so much have just nicked it off myself for the dining room!!!! It’s TOO gorgeous!!! CX #HomeEtc
