Updating our home with old pieces

I’ve done a few posts now about Hubby and I being slightly fascinated with a bargain! Remember our up-cycling our table & chairs project? Well as you can see, we love spending money on our family home in the countryside, but…we also like to save a few £’s too!

We have recently given our Snug a slight makeover. Our Snug is where Hubby and I retreat to at the end of the day. The twins and I spend a lot of time in our family kitchen/diner & playroom during the day – and so it’s nice for Hubby and I to keep this room tidy and have it as our ‘grown-up’ space in the evening…*i.e. no toys!!*

It’s a small room, but it has a large, comfy corner sofa in it and an open coal-fire. It is therefore ideal for warm nights in the winter.

I gave the chimney breast wall a lick of paint in a pinky colour, which looks great against the ivory walls. We got some pictures of Chester (our local City) from a few car boot sales and placed them on the walls.

However, my favourite bargain that we have purchased is a period chest-of-drawers. They are old, slightly worn, and used – but the item is still in great condition and very practical! We have put it in our Snug to hold DVD’s and general ‘stuff’! It was from eBay and cost us around £30. It looks great with the shelves that Hubby put up himself!

Love this room now, and I am enjoying using it so much. I love interiors and designing – and I am enjoying updating our home with a mix of older pieces with newer styles.
