Back to school thoughts and plans

Back-to-school-this-September

Like I said in my August goals post getting the twins ready for going back to school is something I have been putting a lot of energy and effort into over the last few weeks. It takes up a lot of my time during August. I always want to make sure that they have all their uniform, PE, book bags etc — plus it’s all labelled — ready for back to school in early September (so that everything goes smoothly on the first day).

I’ve already ordered most of it now and want to keep staying organised.

I still can’t believe they’ll both be going into Year 1. Reception Year went so quickly (I remember their little faces on their first day *sob sob*) and I still can’t believe that they can now read children’s books and write sentences. They’ll both be turning 6 as soon as they go back too, which is always exciting to have your birthday month!

For me, one of the most important parts of the back to school checklist is school shoes. Probably THE most important. A good quality pair of well-fitted school shoes will mean that they’re comfortable, can play outside to the max, stay safe and plus it helps their feet to grow properly. We walk to school a lot too and so they have to endure a lot of steps per day!

For back to school this year we’ve been kindly sent a pair of school shoes from Start-Rite — and we’re absolutely delighted with them. The twins selected them themselves a few weeks ago and we’ve since been testing out the shoes in the holidays. They’re looking great so far…especially for these boisterous 5-year-olds.

Start-Rite tests every prototype to ensure it never gives up and looks as good as new after the equivalent of 100,000 steps, that riptape fastenings remain ‘sticky’ after 5,000 openings, and its waterproof shoes stay true after testing by flexing 30,000 times underwater. Perfect for ALL that play!

Start-Rite has also designed its entire AW18 collection to be defined by the child’s life-stage and usage. Its Classics range combines timeless styling with an unwavering focus on comfort and foot health, Kicks has versatility and ease at its core – designed to transition seamlessly from playground, park to party, while Pioneers is the most advanced yet – with an expert blend of smart materials, intelligent protection and sports-inspired styling.

The sizing app

This year, Start-Rite has launched a measuring App that takes photos of your child’s feet to ascertain the correct size and will then store the information. After using the measuring tool it’s simple to search and order shoes. Parents can track their child’s sizes and will receive timely reminders to re-measure. A great idea for people too busy to visit stores, or not keen on dragging children in during the busy periods.

Whilst I do actually love back to school time because it’s a chance for me to get some routine back into our lives again (as well as a fresh start for work & life tasks) it does also mean that it marks another stage of them growing up. I always find it a little sentimental in September; I know that waving them off to start Year 1 I will feel a little tug at the heart strings too. Where have my babies gone?

Is your little one/ones starting or back to school in September too? How are you feeling?

Love, Jess x

My little girl is going into year one this September too and my little boy will be starting reception just a few days after his 4th birthday. I am so disorganised this year and really need to start getting uniform and shoes. We have never tried Start-rite shoes before as we always go to Clarkes but these look great, I might have to try these this year as my daughter went through so many pairs of shoes last year x

Oh Jess, just like George they’re growing up too quickly aren’t they. Two gorgeous children you have. I’m a little apprehensive as George is moving up to Junior School from Infants School. He’s excited but I know on day 1 he’ll be apprehensive. I hope you have a great end to the holidays x

I think we’re pretty much sorted for going back to school too. My eldest is off to high school so we’ve had to buy an entirely new uniform for her as well as all the extra stuff that goes along with it. I wanted to get it done early so there was no stressful mad rush during the last week of the holidays when all the sizes we need are sold out! We’ve always gone to Clarks for school shoes. I have to admit that Start-Rite’s promise of being waterproof is swaying me though as two out of my three girls are magnets to puddles during the autumn and winter months and often end up with soggy feet throughout the school day after being a bit too enthusiastic in their jumping endeavours on our walk to school in the morning. I’ll keep them in mind next time they need new ones (probably in October the rate their feet are growing!)
