It’s not an exaggeration to say that our 4-year-old twins are incredibly excited about Christmas this year. Each morning they literally run into our bedroom asking to open their advent calendars and begin counting down the days until Santa visits our home. I didn’t think that they could sustain this level of euphoria for the whole of December…but it has proven to be so!
Of course Christmas is a lot about presents & gifts but there is also much more than that too. It’s about tradition, family, special moments and spending quality time with loved ones – which is all incredibly important at this time of year. I therefore want to make sure that Harry & Lottie have yet another lovely Christmas and that they remember these special times for many years to come.
I have my own many fond memories of Christmas time through the decades – including all sat around a large table, elbows touching, eating my Nan’s amazing roast potatoes whilst wearing coloured paper hats! As well as this I have nostalgia about Christmas TV and whether or not it would snow on the big day itself.
One other childhood memory that really sticks with me was the magic of having a new bike on Christmas Day. As a child, getting a new bike for Christmas was one of the most amazing and exciting experiences! After we had all opened the presents from under the tree I remember my parents saying that there might be one last present that Santa had left. Going into another room and seeing a large, bike-shaped object (wrapped badly!) was SO magical. Then wanting to go out immediately and cycle all around the village!
Being a child from the 80’s my friends and I were mad about the Raleigh brand (such as below)…which was such a funky design! Every cool kid had one and I really wanted one too.
Here are more bikes from through the decades as created by the people at Halfords – can you spot your first one?
We actually did this last year with our twins and their two cousins (my Sister’s little boy & girl) as all four children got their very first bike! It was so sweet leading them outside and then revealing the four bikes lined up together in our garage. They really did squeal with glee!
The twins bikes were from the children’s Halfords range.
Being a parent and watching your child get their very first bike is such an amazing moment and one I won’t ever forget.
I just love how Christmas has once again become incredibly magical & special since becoming a Mum of twins. The run up to the day and then the festive period really is the most wonderful time of the year.
Here’s to making plenty more special memories!
Love, Jess x
