Both Hubby and I were never really festival goers when we were younger. I think we both liked the idea of the amazing music and the chilled out vibes – but neither of us fancied the camping part much at all! More recently, since we have had the twins, the thought of a festival has not been on the radar at all either!
So when Bassetts Vitamins kindly got in touch with me and asked if we would like a family pass to the 2016 Lakefest festival weekend at Eastnor Castle, Ledbury, I absolutely jumped at the chance! Not only was it on our doorstep (35 mins away) but it seemed geared up to be a superb family-friendly event.
Luckily, Friday was a glorious day; the sun shone all day. The skies were a beautiful shade of blue and it was perfect weather for a whole day outdoors. We got there pretty early (10.30am) and so there were no queues to get in or crowds and so we almost had the place to ourselves for the first few hours.
What’s on for kids?…
Aside from the music for the grown ups (Primal Scream, The Coral and Newton Faulkner were playing that weekend) there is SO much on for the little ones. I have seen quite a lot of bloggers rave about other festivals but now that I have been myself I can confirm that they really do cater for children. At Lakefest festival there were circus acts, a funfair, bubble nets, ice cream vans, a craft area, face paints and plenty of open space to relax or run around. The twins were happy all day and they thoroughly enjoyed people-watching too. They also loved all the colours from the flags, tents & stalls.
For lunch the twins had pots of fish n’ chips which they enjoyed. I had a pot of chips and Hubby had an Indian spiced wrap. There was plenty of cuisine on selection.
Bassetts Vitamins & Rachel Stevens…
This year, Bassetts Vitamins is continuing its #Life with More Colour campaign for a second year. Bassetts Vitamins conducted a mass Mumsnet trial, in which its 3-6 year olds Strawberry Multivitamin, secured the seal of approval from parents, with a 94% recommendation and Mumsnet rated badge. We absolutely use them in our house; even though I give the twins healthy food I have still been giving vitamins to the twins since they were very little.
We visited their pop-up stand at the festival where the children played, coloured in and dressed up!
I also had the privilege of interviewing Bassetts Vitamins Ambassador Rachel Stevens (from the band S Club 7, and Mum-of-two) about her involvement with the campaign and her family life. Her gorgeous little girls accompanied her to the event which showed that she is a busy working Mum too! She said that the girls went with her to recent jobs such as Strictly Come Dancing and The Voice of Ireland.
I asked her what her favourite social media app was and she said Instagram! Great choice! And she asked all about my blog and coping with twins. Harry & Lottie then played with her girls in the Bassett’s stand!
She’s very stylish and I just loved her hair and make-up.
Would we go again?…
This particular festival did seem to be on quite a small-scale and so I am not sure we could have stayed for a entire weekend but we definitely enjoyed being there for the whole day. Hubby and I have said that it was one of our best days out in a long time.
The only downside for the day was the toilets as they were pretty smelly and a lot were un-usable, but I suppose that it is all part of the experience?! However, if you do have young children then this could be off-putting. I therefore highly recommend a few packs of baby wipes if you are going next year!
I’m SO glad we got to experience going to a festival because we might not have chosen to do something like this ourselves. We would now do this again for sure. And I highly recommend it to anyone with kids as they love all the attractions, rides, crafts and events.
So here’s a vlog of our lovely day at Lakefest, if you’d like a little peek!
Thanks for reading & watching.
Love, Jess x
