Soon after we were married – and trying for a baby – I wasn’t quite sure at that point how Dave would take to Fatherhood. I wasn’t sure if he’d be OK with giving up our late-night partying, luxurious relaxing holidays and our lazy weekend mornings.
When we found out at our 7-week scan that we were indeed having twins (after our 3rd round of IVF) his face was an absolute picture. He looked a mixture of excited and terrified. He pretty much stayed like that for the whole pregnancy!
He has, however, turned out to be better than a great Dad. He is, quite simply, unreal.
The twins LOVE him so much and it makes my heart melt when I see them all together; playing, doing jobs and hanging out. He’s so patient with them and they adore him. As the twins get older they are are incredibly close to him and they all have such a good time.
With Father’s Day approaching (Sunday 18th June 2017) notonthehighstreet.com have asked me to find out what makes him SO special to us by identifying what makes him ‘Dad’. They want to know whether he is Part Dad, Part Rockstar or Part Dad, Part Sports fan etc – to then determine what gift suits him best! They have asked me to find out what the second ‘part’ is, by asking the twins some questions!
Following their answers notonthehighstreet.com have kindly let the twins and I surprise him with a gift from their website, that shows him how much we really know (and love) him.
To work out what is the best gift for him from their vast and superb products, I asked the twins the following…and here’s what they said (I had to slightly edit the responses and some made me laugh out loud!):
What’s the coolest thing Dad’s ever done?
“Dug a hole in the garden to make decking”
What’s Dad’s favourite thing to do?
“Read his phone”
What’s the most embarrassing thing Dad’s ever done?
“He tickles us!”
What does Dad do at work?
“He works in an office and has workers”
If Dad could have any job in the world what would it be?
“Look after us at home”
What makes Dad really happy?
What’s Dad really good at?
“Digging the garden, planting vegetables and cutting the grass”
If Dad could be anyone in the world, who would he be?
What’s the funniest thing Dad’s ever done?
“He sprayed us with the garden hose and the water was cold!”
What was Dad’s favourite holiday?
What’s Dad’s favourite food?
If you were going to get Dad a gift, what would he like?
“Something for the garden for the vegetables”
These answers are so funny!
So as a summary of their answers, we decided to go with…Part Dad, Part Garden Hero!
This is because he has been spending so much time this spring/summer creating a lovely garden for us all to enjoy in our new-build family home. He’s put together the twins trampoline, created areas for us to have plants, planted up a vegetable patch – as well as more recently building a whole decking area to sit alongside the patio. The twins have been out there with buckets, spades and wellingtons to ‘help’ him every step of the way!
Our Garden Hero!
Based on this, notonthehighstreet.com therefore sent us this lovely Dad & Me Growing Together Kit (shown below) which are some planters, with cute messages on the side, along with children-friendly vegetables to grow. Dave and the children can now potter outside planting these up together and he can tend to them all summer. Such a perfect gift.
Why not get involved too with #GetToKnowDad and see what you come up with!
Happy Father’s Day to all the special Dads.
Love, Jess x
